Trump ally criticizes GOP nominee’s idea to use military for domestic purposes
Representative Byron Donalds, a Republican from Florida, stated in an interview with CNN on Monday that he does not support former President Donald Trump’s proposal to use the U.S. military within the country for elections security.
Despite being a steadfast supporter of Trump, Donalds diverged from the GOP nominee’s viewpoint. Trump had suggested on Fox News that the military might be necessary if faced with “radical-left lunatics” and “the enemy from within.” Donalds noted that while the deployment of the National Guard might be “appropriate,” he “obviously” opposes the idea of the military being used domestically.
“This has been a long-standing principle in our country since its inception,” Donalds remarked during his conversation with CNN’s Kasie Hunt.
The response from the Harris-Walz campaign to Trump’s Fox News comments was swift. A representative stated that his remarks “should concern every American who values their freedom and safety.”
Though Donalds shares Trump’s belief regarding the 2020 election, insisting fraud was not widespread, he is confident that the Republican nominee will accept the outcome in the current election “as long as every state adheres to the procedures established by their legislatures.”
