Trump commends ‘excellent’ law enforcement action following recent assassination attempt
Former President Donald Trump expressed gratitude towards the Secret Service and local law enforcement for their “excellent” reaction to a second attempt on his life that took place at his golf club in Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.
According to local officials, agents from the Secret Service fired at an individual who was aiming a rifle through a fence while Trump was playing golf. At the site, authorities recovered the rifle along with a scope, a bag of ceramic tiles, and a GoPro camera.
The individual, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, managed to escape in a vehicle but was apprehended shortly thereafter. He is currently awaiting a federal court hearing, as per statements from Florida’s state attorney to YSL News.
Following the incident, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to commend law enforcement’s efforts.
“I appreciate everyone’s concern and well wishes—it certainly was a memorable day!” Trump shared.
“Above all, I extend my gratitude to the U.S. Secret Service, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, his devoted team, and all law enforcement for their remarkable response at Trump International, ensuring my safety as the 45th President of the United States and the Republican Nominee for the upcoming Presidential Election.”
“THE RESPONSE WAS TRULY OUTSTANDING. I AM EXTREMELY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!” Trump concluded.
Trump’s praise in light of this latest assassination attempt sharply contrasts with his reaction after the initial attack on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania.
During the first attempt, a gunman shot Trump in the ear, resulting in one death and injuries to two others at a campaign rally on July 13. In response, Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle resigned, and the agency promised to bolster security measures around Trump.
The increase in security around Trump may have played a crucial role in preventing a tragedy on Sunday, experts have suggested to YSL News.
Despite his commendations, Congress is still set to call for a briefing from the Secret Service regarding the security breach that occurred on Sunday.
A bipartisan House panel, which was formed to probe the first assassination attempt, issued a statement indicating that they have requested a meeting with the Secret Service to understand “the events that transpired and how they responded.”
“We are relieved that the former President was unharmed, but we are still very concerned about political violence and denounce it in every form,” they stated. “The Task Force will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
