ATLANTA — Just a day after canceling the start of his tour, Usher has now postponed his next two concerts in Atlanta, which were supposed to take place on Friday and Saturday.

The “Confessions” artist announced on Thursday that he is delaying these shows to allow for recovery from an ongoing injury.

“This week, I sustained a neck injury during rehearsals as I aimed to deliver the ultimate USHER performance,” he posted on social media. “I initially thought with physical therapy and medical care I would be ready for the opening night. Sadly, it appears that the injury hasn’t healed sufficiently, and my doctors have advised against performing this week.”

Usher shared some optimism: “The good news is that with enough rest and treatment, the doctors believe I should be ready to kick off the tour again at my next scheduled stop in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 20.”

“I cherish my fans and appreciate your understanding as I prioritize healing from this injury to deliver the excellence you anticipate from an USHER show. I will be performing on stage in your city very soon,” he wrote.

Will Usher’s concerts in Atlanta be rescheduled?

The Atlanta shows, which were set for the State Farm Arena, will be moved to December, according to Usher’s Thursday update.

The concert on Aug. 14 will now take place on Dec. 9, the Aug. 16 show will be on Dec. 10, and the Aug. 17 performance will shift to Dec. 12.

His next performances are scheduled for Washington, D.C., on Aug. 20 and 21 at the Capital One Arena.

This tour marks the pinnacle of a significant few years for Usher, who delivered an electrifying Super Bowl halftime show earlier this year, shortly after launching his ninth solo studio album, “Coming Home.” He also completed a successful Las Vegas residency with 100 shows in December.

Just prior to his Super Bowl appearance, Usher announced the tour, initially planning for 24 dates in North America before expanding to a total of 58 shows through November. The tour will resume in Europe in 2025, starting in London from March to May.

Usher postponed opening concert just hours before the kickoff

“Throughout my 30-plus year career, I’ve poured every bit of my effort into delivering the best shows and unforgettable experiences for my fans,” Usher stated in a social media message on Wednesday. “I intend to continue this commitment for this tour, which is why I’ve had to postpone tonight’s performance and reschedule it for a later date, allowing my body some time to heal. You can still expect a mix of the past, present, and a unique glimpse into the future during the rescheduled event, all while receiving my best performance.”

This past summer, Usher graced the stage at the Essence Festival, performing songs from his “Confessions” album to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Just days earlier, he accepted the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards, following a musical tribute by Keke Palmer, Chloë, Coco Jones, and others.

In May, the organizers of Usher’s Lovers & Friends music festival made the difficult decision to cancel the event just hours before it was scheduled to start due to warnings of high winds from the National Weather Service.

“After consulting with public officials and following advice from the National Weather Service, we have decided to prioritize the safety of our fans, artists, and staff, leading to the cancellation of the Lovers & Friends Festival,” read the statement.
