Cowboys Set to Welcome Running Back Dalvin Cook with One-Year Deal

Cowboys set to add running back Dalvin Cook on a one-year contract, according to reports

Following a workout with the Dallas Cowboys, Dalvin Cook is slated to join the team on a one-year contract, as confirmed by his agency to ESPN and NFL Network.

The running back, a four-time Pro Bowl selection, did not secure a team during training camp. He had limited opportunities with the New York Jets last season and signed with the Baltimore Ravens for the playoffs, participating in just one game. He visited Dallas for a workout last Tuesday.

At 29 years old, Cook will initially be placed on the Cowboys’ practice squad but remains eligible to be promoted before the team’s Week 1 match against the Cleveland Browns on September 8.

The Cowboys also brought back former first-round pick Ezekiel Elliott at running back this offseason. Players Rico Dowdle and Deuce Vaughn are part of the roster as well. Notably, Tony Pollard, who topped the team in rushing over the last two seasons, has signed with the Tennessee Titans in free agency.

With Cook now joining quarterback Dak Prescott in the backfield, it’s worth noting that Cook enjoyed some of his best performance years from 2019 to 2022 while playing for the Minnesota Vikings. He consistently rushed for over 1,135 yards each year, peaking at 1,557 yards in 2020, a season where he also reached a personal best of 16 rushing touchdowns. In his last two seasons with the Vikings, Cook scored 14 touchdowns, and the Jets gave him 67 rushing attempts before he moved on to Baltimore.
