Bears part ways with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron following 23 drives without a touchdown
The Chicago Bears have dismissed offensive coordinator Shane Waldron during a tough three-game losing streak.
Waldron joined the Bears last offseason, taking over the offensive duties from Luke Getsy, who was released after the 2023 season and became part of the Las Vegas Raiders’ coaching team this year.
Just a week after Getsy was let go, Waldron was also fired, marking him as the second offensive coordinator to lose his job mid-2024 season.
“After assessing our entire operation, I concluded that a change in the leadership of our offense is necessary for the benefit of our team. This was a well-considered decision made with care and respect,” Eberflus stated. “I want to express my gratitude to Shane for his contributions and wish him success in the future.”
Waldron’s fate seemed inevitable as the Bears struggled through three straight losses, unable to score effectively. The team’s offense ranks among the lowest, positioned ninth for fewest points scored per game and third for least yards gained.
After a disappointing 19-3 defeat against the New England Patriots in Week 10, the Bears had gone 23 consecutive possessions without a touchdown.
The Bears announced on Tuesday morning that Thomas Brown, the passing game coordinator, will fill in as the interim offensive coordinator for the rest of the season.
