Aidan Hutchinson injury update: Lions DE carted off following serious leg injury
The Detroit Lions are dominating the Dallas Cowboys, but they might be facing a major setback on defense.
Lions standout Aidan Hutchinson sustained a serious leg injury in the third quarter of the Week 6 matchup. The injury occurred while he was bringing down Dak Prescott, but his leg twisted awkwardly after colliding with teammate Alim McNeill’s leg.
Upon hitting the ground, Hutchinson immediately grabbed his leg, removed his gloves, and lay still as the medical staff attended to him.
There was a considerable delay in the game as Hutchinson received assistance, and he was eventually taken off the field on a cart and escorted to the Lions’ locker room.
Aidan Hutchinson injury update
The Lions quickly declared Hutchinson out for the game due to what was described as a “lower leg injury.” This was expected given the severity of the injury he sustained.
Detroit has yet to provide further updates on Hutchinson’s condition, aside from stating that he would not return to the game on Sunday.
Who is Aidan Hutchinson’s backup on the Lions roster?
Isaac Ukwu is the primary backup edge rusher behind Hutchinson. The team also includes James Houston, who was not active for the Cowboys game.
Before Hutchinson’s injury, the Lions were already short on edge rushers due to Marcus Davenport’s season-ending torn triceps. Now, they are left with only a couple of healthy edge rushers, Ukwu and Josh Paschal, while Hutchinson recovers.
The Lions will probably seek to improve their edge rushing depth in the upcoming weeks, particularly with Hutchinson’s absence likely to be lengthy.
Aidan Hutchinson’s statistics
Before his injury, Hutchinson recorded one sack and three quarterback hits against the Cowboys. He came into Week 6 with a total of 6.5 sacks for the season, which he increased to 7.5 against Dallas.
