Allison Williams Drops Hints About ‘M3GAN 2.0’ and Looks Back on Her ‘Get Out’ Role as the Ultimate ‘Whitest Girl’

Allison Williams hints at ‘M3GAN 2.0’ and reminisces about being the ‘whitest girl’ in ‘Get Out’

The horror film “M3GAN” is set for an exciting sequel.

During a panel at Blumhouse’s New York Comic Con on Friday, Allison Williams shared sneak peeks about “M3GAN 2.0,” the follow-up to 2023’s successful horror movie. To the audience’s surprise, the infamous doll also made a virtual appearance.

The 36-year-old “Girls” actress described “M3GAN 2.0,” which is set to hit theaters in June, as “larger and more elaborate” compared to its predecessor, where a robotic companion goes on a murderous spree. Williams explained that the team is excited to “have a bit more fun” with the sequel, having gained valuable insights from the first film, especially in managing the often unpredictable animatronics.

She mentioned, “When M3GAN arrives on set — and sometimes she is physically rolled in — the atmosphere instantly changes, becoming eerily spooky.” Williams described the unsettling moments, saying, “The eeriest scenes are when M3GAN is simply at rest. Just passing by the M3GAN tent, it creates a feeling that you should keep moving because something might happen.”

Williams expressed her gratitude that audiences appreciated the “unique tone” of the quirky, 2023 film, which became a viral sensation, particularly after its trailers showcased a dancing killer doll.

“We were all hoping people would get her,” Williams noted. “She’s very specific. When the trailer launched and people resonated with her vibe, and the memes started circulating, we were thrilled. It showed that she was well-received and understood.”

While no sequel footage was unveiled during the panel, Williams mentioned that filming was just completed. However, M3GAN made a special video appearance to interact with fans.

“Hey, New York Comic Con,” the doll said in a video, looking straight at the camera. “Did you miss me? Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there because I’m busy working on my exciting new movie, ‘M3GAN 2.0.’ I’ve received some upgrades. Can’t wait to see you all in June!”

‘Get Out’ inspired Allison Williams to dive into the horror genre

As the discussion continued, Williams mentioned that she never anticipated joining the horror genre, crediting her entry to director Jordan Peele. She played a pivotal role in Peele’s 2017 film “Get Out,” portraying a woman whose sweet demeanor masks her darker motivations when introducing her boyfriend, Chris (played by Daniel Kaluuya), to her family.

“I actually find horror films quite frightening,” the actress admitted. She recounted Peele’s request, saying, “I need an incredibly innocent-looking white girl, someone so white that they might even pronounce the ‘h’ in ‘white.’ And he declared, ‘That’s you. I choose you.’ I was flattered.”

Williams remembered Peele saying, “You once played Peter Pan live on TV. You can tackle anything,” to which she humorously replied, “You’re absolutely right!”

After her role in “Get Out,” Williams found that she developed a certain appetite for horror. When asked if she is recognized more for “Get Out” or “M3GAN,” she jokingly replied, “If they speak to me, it’s definitely M3GAN. If they look at me in fear and quickly cross the street, then it’s ‘Get Out.’”

Additionally, the panel featured Mike Flanagan hinting at his upcoming sequel to “The Exorcist,” planned for release in 2026. Flanagan, known for “The Haunting of Hill House,” expressed his lifelong admiration for the 1973 classic and shared his eagerness to create “the scariest movie I’ve ever made.”
