Nicholas Pryor, actor from ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ and ‘General Hospital,’ has passed away at 89

Nicholas Pryor, a seasoned film and television actor known for roles in “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “General Hospital,” and “Risky Business,” has died at the age of 89.

His agent, Susan Tolar Walters, confirmed in a statement to YSL News that Pryor passed away from cancer on October 7.

Pryor’s career spanned nearly 70 years, during which he appeared in various soap operas, including NBC’s “Another World” in 1964 and CBS’ “The Nurses” during the 1960s. He became well-known in the late 1990s and early 2000s for his role as Victor Collins, the father of Dr. Kevin Collins (played by Jon Lindstrom), on “General Hospital” and its spin-off, “Port Charles.”

One of his significant television roles from the 1990s was as the chancellor of the fictional California University in “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

Pryor is survived by his wife, Christina Belford, their daughter Stacey Pryor, and his grandchildren, Auguste and Avril Bas.

Tributes for Nicholas Pryor from ‘General Hospital’ co-star Jon Lindstrom

“General Hospital” shared a heartfelt tribute to Pryor on Instagram, mourning the loss of one of their beloved alumni.

“The entire General Hospital Family is deeply saddened by the news of Nicholas Pryor’s passing. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this hard time,” the post read. “His character will continue to have significance through @jonlindstrom and Kevin Collins. Rest in peace, Nicholas.”

Lindstrom publicly shared news of Pryor’s death on social media on Tuesday, stating, “It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of the wonderful Nicholas Pryor. Nick was an exceptional talent and a cherished friend. He passed on October 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.”

Lindstrom reminisced about Pryor’s notable co-stars, which included Tom Cruise (“Risky Business”), Robert Downey Jr. (“Less Than Zero”), Jack Nicholson (“Hoffa”), Kurt Russell (“Executive Decision”), and Ewan McGregor (“Doctor Sleep”).

“He performed on Broadway and made significant contributions to film and television for over 60 years. But to me, he was a true friend — one of the best I’ve ever had,” Lindstrom shared. “He was a mentor, a sounding board, a trusted adviser, and a father figure, transcending his role as my father on #GH and #PortCharles. Furthermore, he was one of the funniest people I’ve ever enjoyed a meal with over a bottle of fine wine.”

“I will miss him immensely, as will his wonderful wife Christina, daughter Stacey, and grandchildren, Gus and Avril. Rest in peace, Nicholas.”
