Chad McQueen, the son of the iconic Hollywood star Steve McQueen, has sadly passed away. He was 63 years old.

His family shared the news of his passing on social media on Wednesday, describing his life as a “remarkable journey.”

“He shared his passion, knowledge, and commitment with us, and we will continue not only his legacy but also that of our grandfather,” they wrote alongside an Instagram post showing McQueen in a classic convertible.

Chad McQueen’s lawyer, Arthur Barens, confirmed the news to The Associated Press, although no cause of death has been disclosed.

He was widely recognized for his performance as Dutch in the 1984 movie “The Karate Kid” and its sequel, “The Karate Kid Part II,” released in 1986.

The family has requested privacy as they “cope with this challenging time and reflect on his incredible life.”

After moving to racecar driving in later years, the Los Angeles native founded McQueen Racing but stopped racing in the mid-2000s due to serious injuries.

“His love for racing showcased his exceptional skills and was a way to pay tribute to his father’s legacy, reflecting the values instilled in him,” his family remarked.

Besides his work in “The Karate Kid,” McQueen played Darren Braniff in the 1993 action film “Firepower,” alongside Gary Daniels. He also served as an executive producer for several films, including two documentaries about Steve McQueen: “I Am Steve McQueen” and “Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans.”

Chad McQueen was Steve McQueen’s only son and one of two children. Steve McQueen, hailed as the “King of Cool” and also a racing enthusiast, passed away at the age of 50 in 1980.

He is survived by his spouse Jeanie Galbraith and their three children: Steven, Chase, and Madison.

Steven McQueen has followed the path of his father and grandfather and is known for his role as Jeremy Gilbert on “The Vampire Diaries.”
