Connecticut Sun Force Deciding Game 5 After Victory Over Minnesota Lynx

On Sunday, Tyasha Harris scored 20 points, leading a total of five Connecticut Sun players in double digits as they made a strong comeback in the second half to secure a 92-82 victory against the Minnesota Lynx in Uncasville, Connecticut. This win forced a crucial fifth game in the WNBA semifinal series.

The winning team of the matchup on Tuesday night in Minneapolis will move on to face the top-seeded New York in the WNBA Finals. Earlier that same day, the Liberty defeated the two-time champions, the Las Vegas Aces, with a score of 76-62, clinching their best-of-five series 3-1.

Connecticut evened the series at 2-2 by halting Minnesota’s aggressive offense in the second half. The Lynx struggled, missing their initial ten 3-point shots after successfully making nine in the first half. The Sun also dominated the inside game, outscoring the Lynx 50-30 in points scored in the paint.

DeWanna Bonner and Alyssa Thomas each contributed 18 points for Connecticut, with Thomas also recording 11 assists and eight rebounds. DiJonai Carrington added 15 points, while Marina Mabrey came off the bench to score 10.

Napheesa Collier was a standout for Minnesota, achieving game highs with 29 points and 13 rebounds, while Natisha Hiedeman added 16 points off the bench. Courtney Williams also made a contribution with 11 points.

In the fourth quarter, the Sun outscored the Lynx 24-19, leading by as much as 15 points towards the end. Connecticut finished with a shooting percentage of 53.7% from the field.

Hoping to conclude the series, Minnesota got off to a strong start with Collier, who scored nine points in around 4.5 minutes, helping the Lynx take a 22-12 lead before ending the first quarter ahead 22-15.

Minnesota maintained their momentum in the second quarter, several times restoring their lead to 10 points. When Connecticut narrowed the gap to four points, Hiedeman silenced the crowd by hitting a running 30-footer as time ran out, giving the Lynx a 50-43 advantage at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Sun made their comeback. They took the lead for the first time with 2:40 remaining in the period when Bonner converted Carrington’s pass into an alley-oop layup, and Thomas capped the quarter with a driving layup that put Connecticut ahead 68-63 heading into the final quarter.
