DJ Unk, the rapper behind ‘Walk It Out’, has passed away

Anthony Leonard Platt, popularly known as DJ Unk, has died at the age of 43, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Rolling Stone. The Atlanta-based rapper gained fame for his songs “Walk It Out” and “2 Step.”

The details surrounding his death remain unclear. His passing was first announced on Friday, with confirmation from his wife, Sherkita Long-Platt, who shared on Facebook:

“Please respect my family and me during this time. I have just lost my husband, and my children have lost their father. Our lives will never be the same. I LOVE YOU ANTHONY FOREVER.”

Platt had openly discussed his previous health challenges. In a 2010 article for XXL magazine, he reflected on recovering from a heart attack that occurred the year before.

“I had some health issues due to not eating properly, which happened when I neglected my well-being. I need to get healthy, not just for myself but also for my kids and my wife,” Platt told XXL.

He added: “It was a result of not exercising and poor eating habits. I work hard every day to provide for my family. I’m always on the go, taking flights, and adjusting to new environments, and it really took a toll on me. Stress played a big role.”

His breakout track “Walk It Out” reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. A remix of the song features Andre 3000 from the iconic hip-hop duo Outkast.

“I never thought he would join me on a track like that because of his legendary status in hip-hop and music,” Platt remarked to Billboard during the 2023 BET Awards.
