Douglas Emhoff, the Second Gentleman, delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention, advocating for his wife, Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he described as a “joyful warrior.”
On stage in Chicago, Emhoff expressed gratitude towards Harris for her willingness to serve the nation in pivotal times. He highlighted her strength derived from empathy, bringing joy in her pursuit of justice.

During his address, he shared a humorous anecdote about how a client introduced him to Harris by giving him her phone number following a blind date setup.
“For ages, there have been discussions about the right time to call someone set up for a date. Yet never before has anyone suggested waking up at 8:30 a.m.,” Emhoff joked.
He recounted how he and Harris quickly formed a bond, expressing how he instantly fell in love with her laughter. He noted her unwavering support for his two children, who affectionately refer to her as “Mamala,” and assured the audience that she would also advocate for the children of the nation.
After President Joe Biden declared he would not run for reelection, Emhoff expressed his appreciation on X, praising Biden for his “honesty, decency, and integrity.”
“Together with @VP, they have tirelessly championed families and communities, achieving remarkable things for Americans throughout the country. I am incredibly proud of their achievements and grateful for their leadership,” Emhoff commented.
