Ford warns owners not to drive certain cars with Takata airbags: Complete list inside
Ford has issued an advisory instructing some vehicle owners not to drive their cars if they haven’t had them fixed following three previous safety recalls.
The recalls in question are 15S21, 17S42, and 19S01. The first recall occurred in 2015 and involved numerous vehicles that had Takata airbag inflators without desiccant. This is the second do-not-drive notice related to Takata airbags from Ford, aimed at urging owners to get their vehicles repaired as quickly as possible.
The advisory affects all customers who have not yet addressed the recalls, which include inflators for both driver and passenger airbags in the following models:
- 2004-2006 Ford Ranger
- 2005-2014 Ford Mustang
- 2005-2006 Ford GT
Additionally, it involves passenger airbag inflators in these vehicles:
- 2006-2012 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ / Zephyr
- 2007-2010 Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX
- 2007-2011 Ford Ranger

Why is Ford advising against driving some vehicles with Takata airbags?
Ford indicates that the age of these vehicles increases the likelihood of an airbag part failing and potentially exploding during a crash, launching sharp metal fragments that could cause serious injuries or fatalities to the occupants.
The company continues making efforts to reach out to customers regarding these recalls, reporting over 121 million attempts to contact U.S. customers, with more than 95% of those affected having already addressed their recalls.
In the U.S., around 374,300 airbag inflators in Ford and Lincoln models are affected, with a global total of 765,600 inflators.
What should you do if your vehicle is affected by the do-not-drive advisory?
Ford has stated that parts for repairs are currently available. Customers have the option to request mobile repair services, or they can have their vehicles towed to a dealership for servicing.
Dealerships will also offer a complimentary interim loaner car while repairs are being made, if needed.
Ford plans to keep reaching out to known owners each month with updated do-not-drive advisories. To check if your vehicle is included in the recall, you can visit either www.ford.com/support/recalls/ or nhtsa.gov/recalls.
