Will Howard Injury Update: Ohio State Quarterback Returns to Michigan Game After Hard Hit

During Saturday’s matchup known as “The Game,” it looked for a moment like Ohio State would need to continue the rivalry against Michigan without its starting quarterback.

Will Howard, a transfer from Kansas State, took a significant hit from Michigan’s defensive back Macari Paige after a two-yard run, with 12:37 left in the second quarter. Following the hit, Howard exited the game during a fourth-and-1 situation, and backup Devin Brown stepped in to hand off the ball, securing a first down with a 10-yard run from running back Quinson Judkins.

However, Brown’s time on the field was brief, as Howard soon returned from the medical tent after just three minutes of play. He was seen cheering for his teammates along the sidelines, energizing the crowd at Ohio Stadium.

According to FOX Sports sideline reporter Jenny Taft, Ohio State evaluated Howard for a possible head injury, but he reassured the coaches and medical staff by stating, “I am fine. I am good.”

At the time of Howard’s injury, Ohio State was trailing 7-3. Once he returned to the field, the Buckeyes were unable to score on the ensuing drive when kicker Jayden Fielding missed a 38-yard field goal attempt.

Ohio State had been struggling against Michigan for the past three years, a streak that has clouded coach Ryan Day’s successful run at the university. The teams entered halftime tied at 10.
