Explore Olight’s Newest Releases: The Arkfeld Ultra, Perun 3, and Baton Turbo
Olight has introduced several new flashlights: the multifunctional Arkfeld Ultra, the versatile Perun 3, and the compact power of the Baton Turbo, each designed for different lighting needs.
Although most people rely on their smartphones for basic flashlight capabilities, having a robust and multifunctional flashlight is essential for specific lighting requirements. Since its inception in 2007, Olight has been a significant player in the everyday carry (EDC) flashlight market and is known for the popular Baton 3 Premium Edition.
Recently, Olight unveiled a series of upgraded versions of its main products, along with some exciting new entries. After testing these flashlights in recent days, it’s clear that Olight has created a few impressive options.
What is Olight?
Established in 2007, Olight specializes in a variety of lighting products, including flashlights, headlamps, bike lights, and more.
What are Olight’s latest products?
During the Olight Fall Event, the company released a variety of flashlights designed for different needs. The new lineup includes:
- Arkfeld Ultra
- Arkfeld Pro Paws Edition
- Perun 3
- Baton Turbo
- Sphere
I had the opportunity to test all these products a week before they were released, taking them out during nighttime walks and runs. I also analyzed their usability, brightness, and battery life over a week-long period.
Arkfeld Ultra and Pro Paws Edition
The Arkfeld Ultra is a 3-in-1 flashlight that enhances Olight’s EDC-focused lineup with welcomed features. It integrates three functionalities: a white light, UV light, and a green laser pointer. Additionally, it includes a battery indicator, a clip for your belt, and a magnetic charging port. The design is flat rather than the typical tubular shape, making it comfortably pocket-sized. Compared to the Arkfeld Pro, the Ultra offers some key improvements, such as a brighter white light at 1400 lumens (compared to 1300 lumens) and is made from Olight’s superior OAL aluminum alloy, which is touted as stronger and more resilient than 6061 aluminum.
As someone who primarily works from home, I haven’t often needed EDC items; however, if I were to work in an office, I’d consider the Ultra an essential part of my work bag. Its versatility and strong brightness were impressive. While I’m not typically in need of a laser pointer, my cat certainly enjoyed it. As for the UV light, I’d prefer to remain blissfully ignorant about hotel cleanliness, but I see how it could be beneficial for those who value it.
Though I might not frequently use two of the Arkfeld’s functions, I appreciated the Ultra’s robust construction and compact design. At a price point of $119.99, it’s a worthwhile option for anyone searching for a quality EDC flashlight.
Along with the Arkfeld Ultra, I also received the Arkfeld Pro Paws Edition. This version is identical to the standard Pro but sports a cute pet-themed design. For every Paw Edition sold, Olight donates $5 to help support homeless cats and dogs.
Perun 3
The Perun 3 is designed for hands-free lighting in various situations, featuring a right-angle flashlight that serves well where regular flashlights fall short. It delivers a powerful 3000 lumens and operates on a 5000 mAh battery, lasting up to 20 hours in moonlight mode. The Perun 3 also includes a red light, with multiple brightness settings and configurations. With an IP68 rating, it’s weatherproof and can be used as a handheld torch, with or without the supplied headband, or with a clip or magnetic base.
I usually rely on a headlamp during my night runs and outdoor activities, so I was eager to see how the Perun 3 would compare. Its weight and slightly unique shape make it unsuitable as a primary replacement for my headlamp. However, it’s an excellent option for occasional use. The torch clips into the comfortable head strap nicely and was effective during my nighttime run. Importantly, the Perun 3 outshines my typical headlamp and can double as a regular handheld flashlight.
While I had never tried a right-angle torch before, I’m now a fan of the concept thanks to the Perun 3. Its angle makes it very handy for home repairs. Though marketed mainly as a headlamp, I see the Perun 3 as an ideal tool to keep in my car or toolbox for emergencies and repairs, using it as a headlamp only on occasion.
Baton Turbo
The Baton Turbo is a compact, long-range EDC flashlight that delivers 1000 lumens while weighing just 3.21 oz. It boasts a range of 510 meters and is powered by an 1100mAh rechargeable battery, providing up to 50 days in moonlight mode.
The Baton Turbo is designed for those who need a reliable light source, despite its somewhat limited brightness.
Honestly, I’m a huge fan of this device. Its primary function is to illuminate, and it excels at it. The Baton Turbo strikes a fantastic balance between being lightweight, compact, and incredibly bright, making it my go-to choice for camping and hiking excursions where every ounce counts.
Sphere
Next up is the Olight Sphere, a small ambient light that offers a variety of productivity and entertainment features. With seven light settings available through the power button, you can also access 20 additional options via its companion app. Besides offering a spectrum of colored lights, the Sphere includes a visual countdown timer, a music rhythm mode, and even a light-based game reminiscent of whack-a-mole. This device is powered by a 700 mAh battery, boasts a magnetic base, and has an IP56 rating for weather resistance.
At first, the Sphere left me somewhat puzzled. Its sleek and playful design felt quite different from the robust and practical aesthetics of the Arkfeld, Perun, and Baton. However, I realized that its fun features, especially the visual countdown timer, serve as an excellent productivity tool, particularly for those with hearing difficulties. While I might not buy the Sphere for my personal use, it would make a wonderful gadget for hardworking students who juggle play and study.
Which Olight products should you consider?
If I had to point out a downside with Olight, it would simply be that their products tend to be on the pricier side. Nevertheless, given my initial impressions, I believe the investment is worthwhile.
