Jane Fonda ‘truly honored’ to accept Life Achievement Award at 2025 SAG Awards
Iconic actress and activist Jane Fonda is set to receive the highest accolade from the actors union, the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award.
The star of “9 to 5” will become the 60th person to receive this award, which recognizes outstanding career and humanitarian contributions. The award will be presented during the 31st annual SAG Awards, streaming on Netflix on February 23. Fonda’s impressive resume includes two Academy Awards (“Klute” and “Coming Home”), two BAFTA Awards, an Emmy, the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2015, and the Time magazine Earth Award in 2024. Fonda is also dedicated to environmental causes and has been arrested several times during her Fire Drill Fridays protests in Washington, D.C. She is known for her strong stance against the Vietnam War, which included a controversial visit to North Vietnam in 1972 that continues to spark debate today.
Fonda expressed her “deep honor” at receiving this lifetime recognition from her fellow actors, as stated in a SAG-AFTRA media release on Thursday.
“Having been involved in this industry for almost my entire life, there’s no greater honor than one given to you by your colleagues,” Fonda mentioned, asserting her pride in being a member of SAG-AFTRA.
SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher praised Fonda as “a trailblazer and extraordinary talent,” emphasizing her role as “a dynamic force who has profoundly influenced the realms of entertainment, advocacy, and culture with steadfast passion.”
Last year, Barbra Streisand, 82, received the Life Achievement Award from Jennifer Aniston, who remarked, “Barbra didn’t just pave the way for us; she bulldozed it.”
Notable previous recipients include Alan Alda, Robert De Niro, and Carol Burnett, as well as Fonda’s co-stars from the 2023 film “80 For Brady,” including Lily Tomlin, Sally Field, and Rita Moreno.
