Injury Update on Justin Jefferson: Vikings Receiver is ‘Hopefully’ Day-to-Day After Quad Injury
Justin Jefferson, wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, suffered a leg injury during the second half of the team’s Week 2 match against the San Francisco 49ers.
The injury occurred when Jefferson collided with 49ers linebacker Fred Warner while attempting to block during a running play in the third quarter.
After the play, Jefferson was seen limping off the field with help from the Vikings’ training staff. He received treatment in the blue medical tent before walking back to the locker room on his own for further assessment.
The Vikings later indicated that Jefferson was questionable to return due to a quad injury. He had been performing well, leading the team with 133 yards and a touchdown from four receptions prior to his exit.
Latest on Justin Jefferson’s Injury
Post-game, head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed that Jefferson suffered a quad contusion and expressed hope that the receiver would be day-to-day.
The injury took place with 52 seconds left in the third quarter while Jefferson acted as a decoy during a Ty Chandler run.
Chandler ran for a five-yard gain around the left side, with Jefferson coming from his position as an outside receiver to assist in blocking. He collided with Warner and fell to the ground, visibly in pain. Nick Bosa of the 49ers also sustained an injury during the same play.
The Vikings confirmed that Jefferson’s injury was indeed a quad issue, a detail that O’Connell reiterated after the match.
