Kelce Brothers Dissect NFL Dynamics: Jason’s Philly Comeback and Travis Tackles Team Allegiances on ‘New Heights’

Jason Kelce is back in Philly, while Travis Kelce discusses Chiefs’ favoritism on ‘New Heights’ podcast

In the latest episode of their “New Heights” podcast, Jason and Travis Kelce dove into close games and claims of referee bias.

Both NFL matchups featuring the Kelces were nail-biters, each decided by a single point, with plenty of controversy surrounding them—be it a pivotal call from officials or debatable decisions made by coaches.

During the podcast, the brothers reflected on the recent NFL weekend and tackled social media accusations suggesting that officials favor Travis’ Chiefs, who are two-time defending Super Bowl champs, while ESPN was seen as biased as Jason returned to Philadelphia after retiring.

Travis Kelce reflects on Chiefs’ lucky win: ‘Did we get fortunate? Absolutely’

The Kansas City Chiefs clinched a thrilling 26-25 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals, thanks to Harrison Butker’s field goal at the game’s final moment.

However, the Chiefs’ chance at that game-winning kick stemmed from a controversial pass interference call against Bengals defensive back Daijahn Anthony on a crucial fourth down with only 48 seconds on the clock. This led to frustrations from Bengals fans claiming that the refs directly aided Kansas City’s victory.

“No one enjoys when the Chiefs get a fourth-down conversion like that, but what can the official do?” Jason remarked. “When a call is that close, I understand being hesitant, but this wasn’t close at all.”

After a few more plays and timeouts, Butker successfully kicked a 51-yarder for the win.

“Did we get lucky? For sure, we were fortunate that they flagged that 4th and 16 play,” Travis admitted, though he also pointed out that both teams had chances before that moment to change the game’s outcome.

“Ultimately, you can’t rely on the refs at the end like that. If you do, you can expect some surprises.”

Jason Kelce is back in Philadelphia

In the final showdown of Week 2, Jason Kelce made his return to the city where he spent 13 seasons fortifying the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive line.

After hanging up his cleats this offseason, he joined the crew of ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown,” where they showcased all the excitement from his visit.

“It was absolutely phenomenal,” Jason exclaimed about tailgating with Eagles supporters and reconnecting with former teammates Nick Foles and Fletcher Cox before the game.

When Travis joked that Jason’s dancing was due to him being inebriated, Jason retorted that he was, in fact, “completely sober” since he had broadcasting duties.

Aside from his pregame insights, Jason also joined the “Monday Night Football” broadcast to break down the well-known “Tush Push” play he popularized in Philadelphia.

His detailed knowledge of the Eagles slightly shifted the focus away from the visiting Atlanta Falcons, which Jason acknowledged was influenced by his prominent role in the storyline.

“I wanted to provide impartial commentary for the Falcons,” he shared, ” but being back in Philadelphia was such a unique chance to really mark my retirement as a player.”

The game also came down to the wire, with the Eagles—up by three points—missing a critical third down inside the Falcons’ 5-yard line following a dropped pass by a wide-open Saquon Barkley from quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Jason refused to criticize the Eagles’ play call, despite the Falcons having no timeouts left.

“That pass would only have been thrown if it was wide open, which it was,” he stated. “It was a flawlessly executed play call. The likelihood of an open pass to Saquon Barkley being dropped like that must be very low.”

The ensuing field goal allowed Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins to orchestrate a last-minute drive, setting up a touchdown with 34 seconds remaining.

“Kirk Cousins,” Travis remarked, “demonstrated why Atlanta invested $180 million in him.”
