Lara Trump Withdraws from Consideration for Florida Senate Seat, Leaving Marco Rubio’s Position Open

Lara Trump withdraws her candidacy for the Senate seat being vacated by Marco Rubio

Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, announced on Saturday that she has decided to withdraw her name from consideration for the position of U.S. Senator, which is being vacated by Marco Rubio.

Rubio has been nominated by Trump to take on the role of Secretary of State. Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis is set to choose a new senator to fill Rubio’s spot, as Rubio is anticipated to resign when Trump officially takes office on January 20.

There had been discussions about Lara Trump potentially taking over Rubio’s Senate seat, especially since she had been serving as the co-chair for the Republican National Committee leading up to the 2024 elections.

Nonetheless, Lara Trump stated in a post on X that she had made her decision to step back from consideration “after a great deal of reflection, thought, and encouragement from many.”

“I was truly honored to serve as the co-chair of the RNC during such a critical election in our history, and I feel incredibly grateful for the tremendous support I’ve received from the people across this country and, particularly, in Florida,” she expressed.

Lara is wed to Eric Trump, who is the son of Donald Trump.

She mentioned having a “major announcement” coming up in January but did not elaborate further. Lara Trump emphasized her ongoing dedication to public service and her eagerness to contribute in the future.

While indicating there is already significant interest from other potential candidates, DeSantis noted last month that a decision would likely be made by early January.
