Mandy Moore’s Family Finds Refuge with Hilary Duff During LA Fires and GoFundMe Controversy

Mandy Moore’s family finds refuge with Hilary Duff during LA wildfires and GoFundMe controversy

Hilary Duff is offering support to her friend Mandy Moore.

The former star of “Lizzie McGuire” has welcomed Moore’s family into her home after they lost theirs in the wildfires sweeping through Southern California.

Moore shared on social media that, thankfully, “the main part of our house is still standing” for the moment. She added, however, that “it’s not livable but mostly intact” in her Instagram post.

Griffin “Griff” Goldsmith, Moore’s brother-in-law and drummer of the band Dawes, publicly expressed gratitude on Instagram for Duff’s generosity in accommodating Moore’s family after their home was rendered unlivable. Moore is married to Taylor Goldsmith, the lead singer of Dawes, and they have three children together.

“Our dear friends @matthewkoma and @hilaryduff thought it would be wise to launch a GoFundMe for us to assist with everything ahead,” the drummer explained. “Not to mention, they are currently providing shelter for my brother’s family. They have been taking care of my entire family since this all began, and I will never be able to express my gratitude enough.”

He went on to describe Duff’s family as “the most beautiful, selfless people we’ve ever known.” He continued, “This is truly the kindest gesture anyone could offer another person.”

Goldsmith lamented, “Sadly, we are not the only ones facing this hardship. We have witnessed our beloved city turn into a nightmare overnight, and this situation is far from over.”

The wildfires in Los Angeles are still wreaking havoc across regions in Southern California. The fierce Santa Ana winds returned on Tuesday, threatening to undo the progress made against the devastating wildfires that have obliterated entire neighborhoods and forced over 92,000 individuals to evacuate.

At least 24 fatalities have been reported due to the fires, according to the Los Angeles medical examiner’s office. The destruction impacts more than 12,000 homes, businesses, and structures.

Mandy Moore defends against critics of Matthew Koma’s GoFundMe for her in-laws

Mandy Moore, 40, spoke out against the critics after she shared a link to a fundraising campaign for her in-laws, who lost their home to one of the fierce fires in the Los Angeles area initiated by Duff’s husband, Matthew Koma.

In her Instagram post on January 8, Moore appealed to her followers, mentioning her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, who “lost their home and everything they own” in the Eaton fire while expecting their first child soon. She urged people to “consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild,” linking to the GoFundMe page.

Moore responded to the negative comments by stating on Instagram, “People questioning whether we’re helping our own family or relying on some arbitrary amount of money that Google says someone has is UNHELPFUL and lacking empathy. Of course, we are helping.”

She added, “Our friend Matt set up this GoFundMe, and I’m sharing it because people want to know how they can assist. We have also suffered greatly in a fire. So, kindly back off. No one is compelled to contribute.”
