Have you ever wanted to snap a perfect photo or download a new application, only to be hindered by a notification that your storage is full? It’s incredibly frustrating.

All the applications, images, music, and other files can accumulate quickly, consuming every bit of storage on our devices. For many, the immediate solution might be to think about upgrading to a new phone with more storage capacity. However, spending hundreds of dollars on a new device isn’t always practical or wise. So, when that annoying alert about insufficient storage pops up, take some time to remove unnecessary applications and reclaim storage space.

Steps to free up storage on your iPhone

Start by checking the amount of storage you have available. Open the Settings app, select General, and then navigate to iPhone Storage.

In this section, you can view how much space is currently being used and see a list of applications along with the storage they are utilizing. If your storage is low, the device might even provide suggestions for managing space.

The simplest way to create more storage is to delete: remove photos and videos, erase text conversations, and uninstall apps you no longer use. Just keep deleting!

Text message threads, especially those with an abundance of GIFs, can surprisingly consume a lot of space if they remain undeleted. You can adjust your device settings to automatically purge older messages after a specific time period in the Message History section of the Messages settings.

Ways to increase storage on your iPhone

If you’d rather not delete files from your device, consider storing your photos, music, and other content on a computer or utilizing a cloud service like iCloud.

These cloud services enable you to access your files from anywhere, freeing up space on your phone. However, this method typically requires a subscription fee.
