NFL Power Rankings: Evaluating Each Team Based on Super Bowl Chances

Attention, everyone! The NFL regular season is winding down, with just two months left until 14 teams battle it out in the most thrilling single-elimination tournament in sports, second only to March Madness.

This 2024 season has been filled with surprises and letdowns for fans, yet several teams remain in the hunt for a Super Bowl victory. Not all teams are on equal footing, however. For instance, while the Cincinnati Bengals have potential, they currently sit at 4-7, making their Super Bowl chances lower than those of the Arizona Cardinals, who, despite struggling at 6-5, still have a shot at their division.

Below is a ranking of every NFL team according to their Super Bowl odds, with all odds sourced from BetMGM.

NFL Power Rankings by Super Bowl Odds:

Top Contenders

1) Detroit Lions (10-1), +260

2) Kansas City Chiefs (10-1), +450

T-3) Buffalo Bills (9-2), +650

T-3) Philadelphia Eagles (9-2), +650

5) Baltimore Ravens (8-4), +700

Betting on any of these teams could be worthwhile, but the Detroit Lions have distinctly stood out this season. After their Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Lions have only had two games decided by fewer than five points, winning the rest by significant margins.

Though the Lions haven’t yet faced any other top-tier teams in this segment—only playing against the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings, whom they narrowly defeated—they pass the eye test with flying colors. Even without their star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, the team hasn’t lost momentum. Their upcoming matchup against the Buffalo Bills in three weeks will be telling, but they are expected to provide a strong challenge.

The Surprising Contenders:

6) Green Bay Packers (8-3), +1800

7) Minnesota Vikings (9-2), +2200

8) Pittsburgh Steelers (8-3), +3000

T-9) Houston Texans (7-5), +3500

T-9) Los Angeles Chargers (7-4), +3500

11) Denver Broncos (7-5), +5000

Despite facing a recent tough loss against the Tennessee Titans, the Houston Texans only lost to the Lions by three points not long ago, showcasing their potential. Any team that can challenge the Lions like that deserves more recognition.

Moreover, with the Packers and Vikings both hailing from the Lions’ division, they should have insight into how to best the Lions, though the Texans might have put up the strongest challenge so far.

The Longshots:

T-12) Arizona Cardinals (6-5), +6600

T-12) Atlanta Falcons (6-5), +6600

T-12) San Francisco 49ers (5-6), +6600

T-15) Miami Dolphins (5-6), +8000

T-15) Seattle Seahawks (6-5), +8000

T-15) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-6), +8000

T-15) Washington Commanders (7-5), +8000

T-19) Cincinnati Bengals (4-7), +10000

T-19) Los Angeles Rams (5-6), +10000

In this segment, we encounter teams that have underperformed despite having solid credentials, such as the San Francisco 49ers. Yes, they have struggled and dealt with injuries, along with facing a tough schedule ahead that includes games against the Lions and Bills. Nevertheless, they’re only one game behind first place in their division, and they have shown they can compete against the best teams in the league, evidenced by their Super Bowl appearance last year.

Clearly, something is amiss in San Francisco, and they still need to address it. However, if players like Nick Bosa, Trent Williams, and Brock Purdy return in time for crucial divisional matches in Weeks 15 and 18, they could surprise everyone.

The Outsiders:

21) Indianapolis Colts (5-7), +50000

22) New Orleans Saints (4-7), +75000

T-23) Carolina Panthers (3-8), +100000

T-23) Chicago Bears (4-7), +100000

T-23) Cleveland Browns (3-8), +100000

T-23) Dallas Cowboys (4-7), +100000

T-23) Jacksonville Jaguars (2-9), +100000

T-23) Las Vegas Raiders (2-9), +100000

T-23) New England Patriots (3-9), +100000

T-23) New York Giants (2-9), +100000

T-23) New York Jets (3-8), +100000

T-23) Tennessee Titans (3-8), +100000

It’s time to be honest. Betting on any of these teams to win the Super Bowl is a risky choice, best left to diehard fans or optimists. However, if you fit in one of these categories, throwing a bet on the Indianapolis Colts might not be the worst idea.

You might very well lose your investment, but among these teams, the Colts are only two games away from the top of their division and have a win against Pittsburgh to their credit.

Anthony Richardson hasn’t quite met expectations this season, but he still possesses the ability to make significant plays, keeping the Colts in contests they might usually lose. It’s not out of the realm of possibility for them to finish 8-9 and be just a couple of games shy of a playoff berth, which is more than most teams on this list can anticipate.
