Panthers Coach Offers Insight on Bryce Young’s Week 8 Starting Prospects

Will Bryce Young take the field as the starter in Week 8? Panthers coach addresses QB dilemma

LANDOVER, Md. – Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales has decided not to reinstate Bryce Young as the starting quarterback, even though the team is on a four-game losing streak.

Canales made it clear after the Panthers were beaten 40-7 by the Washington Commanders that Andy Dalton will lead the team in Week 8 when they face the Denver Broncos.

“We need to prepare,” Canales stated after the game. “We will analyze the film, focus on the Broncos right now, and Andy will be our starter next week.”

Dalton struggled during the team’s 33-point defeat, finishing with only 93 passing yards and two interceptions. His passer rating of 44.0 was his lowest this season when starting.

The entire team displayed a lackluster effort, with the defense conceding 421 total yards, including 214 rushing yards to a Commanders squad that was without their quarterback Jayden Daniels for a significant part of the game.

“We need to move past this. However, we must also confront ourselves and ask why these games keep turning out this way,” Dalton remarked. “There are many minor details we need to review and ensure that we improve upon.

“It’s essential that we fully understand everything we’re executing. If we don’t, we end up with results like we did on Sunday. We must be honest with ourselves and everyone has to do it, including me.”

Young entered the game with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter during a time when the outcome was already decided. He, the first overall pick in the 2023 draft, was benched after Week 2.
