Qantas Issues Apology After R-Rated Film Accidentally Airs During Flight

Qantas Issues Apology for Playing Inappropriate Movie During Flight

“The film was clearly inappropriate for the entire duration of the flight, and we deeply regret this experience for our passengers,” stated a spokesperson from Qantas.

A commercial airline has publicly apologized following an incident where an explicit film was shown on all screens during an international flight to Asia.

This situation occurred last week on a flight lasting over 9 and a half hours from Sydney to Haneda Airport in Tokyo, according to a Qantas spokesperson speaking to YSL News on Tuesday.

“Due to technical difficulties with the in-flight entertainment system,” passengers could not select their own movies, leading to a quick selection for the entire flight, which was “based on requests from several passengers,” explained the Australian airline’s representative.

The film aired was “Daddio,” featuring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn, noted for being rated R due to strong language, sexual themes, and explicit nudity.

“The movie was wildly inappropriate,” shared a passenger aboard flight QF59 on Reddit. “There was no way to pause, dim, or switch it off. It continued for nearly an hour before they finally changed it to something more suitable for kids, which was extremely awkward for everyone, particularly families travelling with children.”

A reader commented, “This is unbelievable! When a list of available films is presented, how do you not pick something family-friendly? Like Finding Nemo or Despicable Me? How could a movie meant for mature audiences make it to the list?”

Upon recognizing that the film was inappropriate for the audience, the airline crew attempted to resolve the issue for those who did not wish to watch it.

“Once it was established that fixing the situation wasn’t feasible, the flight switched to a children’s movie,” the spokesperson stated. “Our cabin crew expressed their apologies to passengers during the flight, especially to those who raised concerns about the content.”

‘Clearly Not Appropriate’: Airline Reviews Selection Process

“The film was certainly not suitable for viewing for the entire flight, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused our customers,” the spokesperson added.

The airline’s customer service team will also reach out to those affected.
