Shohei Ohtani and his wife are expecting their first child
Shohei Ohtani, a multi-time MVP winner and World Series champion, is about to gain a new title: dad.
The Los Angeles Dodgers star shared the exciting news on Instagram Saturday, revealing that he and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, a former professional basketball player, are expecting a baby.
He expressed his joy, saying, “Can’t wait for the little rookie to join our family soon!” alongside a picture that included baby outfits and his beloved dog, Decoy.
This news comes at the end of an outstanding year for Ohtani. In his debut season with the Dodgers, he made history as the first MLB player to achieve both 50 home runs and 50 steals in a single season. This was also the year he helped lead Los Angeles to a World Series victory in his first playoff experience. Ohtani clinched his third MVP title, his first in the National League, joining Hall of Famer Frank Robinson as one of the only players to secure MVP honors in both leagues.
While this will be Ohtani’s first child, he has already taken on a ‘dad’ role with his dog Decoy, who became something of an unofficial mascot for the Dodgers this season. Decoy made his mark during a bobblehead giveaway and was the first dog to throw a ceremonial first pitch on August 28. He also participated in the Dodgers’ World Series celebration.
