Election Expert Steve Kornacki Updates His Internet-Famous Khakis Style for 2024 Election Night
Steve Kornacki has given us a heads-up.
During a recent chat with YSL News, the NBC and MSNBC national political correspondent hinted that he might not wear his iconic khakis, calling himself an “undecided voter.”
“Some voters are undecided in the presidential race, and I guess I’m kind of undecided,” Kornacki told YSL News. “I’m not really what you’d call a fashion icon. I haven’t really considered my clothing much.”
On election night this Tuesday, Kornacki donned darker pants, stepping away from his signature Gap khaki trousers that became trending on social media during his extensive election coverage in the 2020 presidential election. Yet, he kept the classic white button-down shirt and tie in his 2024 ensemble.
The 45-year-old confessed that he “truly did not get” why his outfit choice caused such a stir during the last election.
“I was amused by the attention,” Kornacki stated. “I never really grasped it. It’s not like I had a lifelong bond with those pants. They were just what I happened to wear that day.”
Craig Melvin from the Today Show mentioned on X that they were “caffeinating and hydrating him,” ensuring he’s eating properly. Kornacki had previously shared with YSL News that he prefers not to eat while reporting on elections, as it makes him feel sluggish and takes away his edge.
Referring to Kornacki as a “national treasure,” Melvin remarked that he “is well-rested and excited for his quadrennial Super Bowl.”
Kornacki recounted that a few days after the election, his producer asked him about the brand of pants he wore on-air, leaving him somewhat confused.
“Maybe I’ll wear them, maybe I’ll pick something different,” Kornacki said when asked about his outfit plans for this election. “We’ll see what inspires me.”
The khakis, along with Kornacki’s enthusiasm for the election results, earned him nicknames like “Chartthrob” and “Map Daddy.”
When asked which nickname he preferred, he chuckled, “Option C, neither. I appreciate it in a friendly way, but I feel a bit self-conscious about the attention.”
