New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. But regulatory efforts to backfill some injection wells with cement and reduce injection volumes have been effective in lowering the state's induced earthquake rate, according to a new study. Stevie Nicks unveils empowering feminist anthem: ‘Might be the most significant thing I ever achieve’

Stevie Nicks, the enchanting voice of rock, is addressing pressing social concerns with her newest single release after several years.

The song, titled “The Lighthouse,” premiered on Friday and serves as an uplifting feminist anthem designed to inspire political engagement, featuring assertive lines like “get angry” and “they’ll seize your power unless you rise up.”

In the music video, Nicks showcases her iconic voice from atop a lighthouse, representing guidance through uncertainty, while clips of protesters holding signs reading “if it’s not your body, it’s not your decision” and “real men are feminists” play.

Nicks began crafting this song in reaction to the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022.

“It felt as if, in an instant, everyone was asking, ‘What can we, as a united force, do about this?’ For me, the answer was to write a song,” Nicks shared in a press statement. “It took some time, as I was touring. Then, one morning I saw a news report where a particular reporter seemed to be speaking directly to me, detailing the implications of losing Roe v. Wade. I wrote the song the following morning and recorded it that night.”

“That was on September 6, 2022. I’ve been refining it ever since. I often think to myself, ‘This might just be the most crucial thing I ever do. To advocate for the women of the United States and their daughters and granddaughters – and the men who support them.’ This is an anthem.”

Although Nicks hasn’t openly backed any specific candidate for the upcoming presidential elections, she hinted that she might support her close friend Taylor Swift’s choice to vote for Kamala Harris.

In a September 11 Instagram post, Nicks mentioned, “As my friend @taylorswift articulated so well, now is the moment to investigate and select the candidate that resonates with your beliefs. There are only 54 days until the election. Ensure you’re registered to vote! Your vote might be one of the most significant actions you ever take.” She concluded her post, which featured her with a dog, as “Childless Dog Lady.”

This isn’t Nicks’ first foray into political music. In 2022, during the midterm elections, she released a song derived from a poem, titled “Get It Back,” and in the 2020 election cycle, she offered “Show Them The Way.”

Nicks is set to appear on “Saturday Night Live” as the musical guest on October 12, when Ariana Grande will host. She has performances planned for September 28 at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania and with Billy Joel on March 29 at Ford Field in Detroit.
