Transforming Data Centers: Innovative Advances in Photonic Switching

Engineers created a smaller, faster and more efficient photonic switch, which leverages principles from quantum mechanics and could accelerate everything from streaming to training AI by supercharging data centers. Every second, terabytes of data -- the equivalent of downloading thousands upon thousands of movies at once -- travel around the world as light in fiber-optic

Timeline of Cybertruck Explosion: The Vehicle’s Journey to Las Vegas

Investigation teams are working to reconstruct the events leading up to the Tesla Cybertruck explosion that occurred on New Year’s Day in Las Vegas.

Authorities have named 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger as the individual who rented the Cybertruck a few days earlier in Colorado and drove it to Las Vegas. Due to severe burns on the body found within the wreckage, officials have not definitively confirmed the identity of the deceased, but they suspect it was Livelsberger based on the evidence collected.

The explosion took place before 9 a.m. on Wednesday outside the Trump International Hotel. According to Sheriff Kevin McMahill from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Livelsberger likely shot himself in the head just before the explosion occurred.

Despite some similarities, officials have stated there is no evidence linking this explosion to a fatal incident that occurred earlier in New Orleans. The reasons behind Livelsberger’s actions are still unclear.

Here’s what we know about Livelsberger’s journey with the Cybertruck up to the explosion, based on information from authorities:

Truck Rented Days Prior in Colorado

Law enforcement was able to track Livelsberger’s journey with the Cybertruck through Tesla’s charging records and photographs captured by traffic cameras.

Dec. 28: Livelsberger rents the Cybertruck in Denver through the Turo car rental platform.

Dec. 30: The Cybertruck is charged in Monument, Colorado. That same day, Livelsberger legally bought two semi-automatic handguns, according to Kenny Cooper, an official from the ATF’s San Francisco office.

Dec. 31: The Cybertruck is charged in four different locations: Trinidad, Colorado; Las Vegas, New Mexico; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Gallup, New Mexico.

Jan. 1: The Cybertruck is charged in Holbrook, Flagstaff, and Kingman, Arizona. The last charge occurred at 5:33 a.m. in Kingman, about 100 miles from Las Vegas.

The Day of the Explosion

On January 1, early in the day, the Cybertruck was tracked to Las Vegas, according to McMahill.

7:29 a.m.: The Cybertruck is spotted in Las Vegas for the first time.

7:34 a.m.: The vehicle is seen turning onto Fashion Show Drive, which leads to the Trump International Hotel.

Between 7:34 and 8:35 a.m.: The Cybertruck goes through the valet at the Trump hotel and spends the following hour driving around various locations on Las Vegas Boulevard. The vehicle stays nearly 45 minutes in a parking area close to Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road.

8:35 a.m.: The Cybertruck is spotted entering Las Vegas Boulevard from Sands Avenue.

8:39 a.m.: The Cybertruck returns to the valet of the Trump hotel. Shortly after, the truck explodes. It was reported that the driver took his own life just before the explosion, according to McMahill.

As a result of the blast, the driver was killed, and seven other individuals sustained injuries.
