Massachusetts Police File Charges Against Three Teens for Allegedly Assaulting Transgender Teen
Authorities in Massachusetts have charged three teenagers with assault and battery in relation to an alleged attack on a transgender boy.
The Gloucester Police Department announced the charges against the unnamed teens, comprising two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old, following what they described as a “months-long investigation” detailed in a press release issued on Friday.
The police mentioned that while a hate crime investigator looked into the case, the collected evidence did not warrant hate crime charges.
“Our department conducted a careful, thorough, and compassionate investigation, and the charges reflect the evidence we found,” Gloucester Police Chief Edward Conley stated in the release.
Transgender Teen Had Known Alleged Attackers Through Football
Officers responded to reports of an assault that occurred during a party in a wooded area of Gloucester, located about 38 miles northeast of Boston, on August 30, as mentioned in the police press release.
The victim’s mother, Jasmine Tkaczyk, shared in a now-deleted Facebook post that her son, 16-year-old Jayden Tkaczyk, suffered a broken nose after being beaten, kicked into a rock, and stomped on while the attackers hurled anti-LGBTQ slurs at him, according to MassLive.
Jasmine Tkaczyk did not reply immediately to a request for comments from YSL News.
“One moment, I was enjoying myself, and the next, I found myself on the ground getting my face trampled,” Jayden told NBC News. “They kept shouting the F slur repeatedly while they hit me and stomped on me.”
Jayden, who identifies as a transgender boy, mentioned that he was acquainted with his alleged attackers through high school football at Gloucester High School.
The teenagers facing charges will attend a Clark Magistrate hearing to assess whether there is enough evidence for the charges to continue.
