Far-right figure Nick Fuentes claims armed individual came to his home; police shoot man
Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist, reported that an armed man came to his residence on Wednesday night after his address was shared online.
At 11:38 p.m. local time, police were called to a house in Berwyn, Illinois, following reports of a man with a firearm, according to a statement from the Berwyn Police Department.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, ran away and managed to evade capture by the police, according to the statement. He then broke into a nearby home, where he shot two dogs, police reported.
After fleeing into another neighbor’s yard, the suspect ignored police orders to stop, and then started shooting at the officers, who returned fire, according to police reports.
During the exchange of gunfire, police fatally wounded the suspect, with no injuries reported among the officers involved.
Initial reports suggested that the suspect was wanted for a triple homicide that occurred earlier that day in Mahomet, Illinois. The Illinois State Police are currently investigating the situation.
Although the Berwyn police did not explicitly name Fuentes in their statement, YSL News found that he owns property on the street where the police were dispatched.
‘Thankful to God for my safety’
Fuentes addressed the event in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday afternoon, claiming that the armed man “attempted to take my life.”
“I thank God that I’m still here today,” Fuentes wrote on X.
He also posted surveillance footage that seemingly shows a man holding a crossbow and a firearm.
“It’s tragic, but it could have been much worse,” he added. “God have mercy. Doxing is serious.”
This event isn’t Fuentes’ first encounter at home; the Berwyn Police responded to his residence last month following a confrontation with 57-year-old Marla Rose, as reported by several outlets, including NBC News. In a now-deleted video shared by Rose, Fuentes is seen opening his door, aiming a spraying device at the camera, seizing the woman’s phone, bringing it inside, and locking the door, NBC stated.
Fuentes was later arrested on November 27 for misdemeanor battery related to this incident, as noted in Cook County court records.
Who is Nick Fuentes?
Fuentes, once a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, has faced criticism due to his antisemitic and racist remarks. He was expelled from the Conservative Political Action Conference last year due to his open advocacy of such inflammatory rhetoric, including minimizing the Holocaust.
Fuentes plans to move after the incident
In one of his X posts regarding the incident, Fuentes stated, “I now have to change my life and relocate. While I can manage whatever comes my way, it is unfair to expect my neighbors with young families to deal with that.”
Until he moves, Fuentes mentioned that he will hire “24-hour security to ensure my safety and protect my belongings.”
