OG Maco, the Georgia rapper famous for ‘U Guessed It,’ passes away at 32

OG Maco, a rapper from Georgia who gained fame with his 2014 hit “U Guessed It,” has sadly passed away at the age of 32.

His family shared the news of his death on social media on Friday, confirming that his real name, Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., will be remembered fondly.

“With heavy hearts, we announce the devastating news of our beloved Ben, known to everyone as OG Maco,” the family’s statement expressed. “His life demonstrated resilience, creativity, and immense love. His music and undying spirit inspired many and created a meaningful legacy.”

The College Park-based artist had been in the hospital since early December, as per a statement released by his family on December 16, where he was reported to be in “critical but stable condition” for an undisclosed issue.

Representatives for OG Maco have been contacted for more information, with TMZ breaking the news of his death.

The statement from his family continued: “As we mourn this profound loss, we also honor the remarkable life he led, one that will keep inspiring others. OG Maco’s influence as an artist and person will remain forever in our hearts. Today, we remember a truly exceptional individual.”

“U Guessed It” propelled Maco onto the Billboard Hot 100, particularly with a remix featuring 2 Chainz. Later that year, he was signed by the Atlanta-based rap label Quality Control, known for its famous artists like Quavo and Lil Baby, along with the former City Girls, Offset, and Takeoff.

The following year, Maco was part of XXL’s Freshman Class of 2015, a prestigious recognition for rising stars in hip-hop, alongside Vince Staples and Fetty Wap.

Maco was also the founder of the hip-hop collective OGG, which included producer OG Parker, known for his work on Migos’ hit track “Walk It Talk It.”
