‘Extremely tragic’: 3 dead, 5 hurt in mass shooting at home in Chicago; no arrests made
A mass shooting in Chicago on Monday resulted in three fatalities and five injuries, according to city police.
The incident occurred around 2:10 PM at a private residence in the Chicago Lawn area, located in the southwest section of the city, as reported by the Chicago Police Department.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is still ongoing, the department stated in a news alert.
During a press briefing, Chicago Police Chief of Patrol Jon Hein mentioned that the shooting likely took place during a social event. He noted the victims were all Hispanic and aged between 21 and 35, but he didn’t disclose their relationships. No minors were present at the time of the shooting.
“We are committed to solving this case and identifying those responsible for this appalling event,” Hein said to the media.
Law enforcement discovered eight victims affected by gunfire
When officers arrived at the scene, they found eight victims suffering from gunshot wounds, including three men who succumbed to their injuries either at the location or later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the police.
Authorities identified one of the deceased men as being 26 years old, but details on the other two have not been disclosed.
Among the injured, two victims were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago, including a 25-year-old man who is now stable, and a 27-year-old woman who remains in critical condition. A 31-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were treated at UI Health Hospital in Chicago and are both reported to be doing well.
A 24-year-old woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to her shoulder, right hip, left hip, and left thigh.
