What Speed Did Tyreek Hill Reach When Pulled Over by Miami Police? Citation Indicates Approximately 60 mph

The Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was estimated by an officer to be exceeding the speed limit by about 20 miles per hour while heading to Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, as per citations released on Tuesday.

During the traffic stop, Hill was forcibly removed from his vehicle by Miami-Dade police and was handcuffed for roughly 15 minutes after he rolled up his window when asked to keep it down. However, he was not arrested and received two traffic citations for careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

According to the citations shared by Miami-Dade police, they estimated Hill’s McLaren 720S coupe was traveling at about 60 mph before being pulled over. The speed limit in that area near Hard Rock Stadium is 40 mph.

The officer who issued the citation noted, in shorthand, that Hill was speeding in a zone with a high volume of both vehicles and pedestrians, which likely led to the careless driving charge.

The 30-year-old Hill is required to pay around $300 in fines for the two citations.

Along with the citation details, the police department on Tuesday also disclosed the name of the officer under investigation for the interaction with Hill: Danny Torres, a 27-year veteran of the department. Torres has been reassigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We will release more information as it becomes available after the investigation’s conclusion,” stated a spokesperson for Miami-Dade police in an email.

An attorney representing Torres issued a statement earlier on Tuesday requesting his immediate reinstatement. Meanwhile, several critics, including Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, have expressed their belief that the officers involved in the traffic stop should be terminated.

“The way they treated him was unacceptable,” Rosenhaus said during an appearance on “The Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz” podcast. “They failed to treat him with dignity. Such officers shouldn’t be in the police force.”

Earlier in the year, Hill had agreed to a restructured contract with the Dolphins worth $90 million, and just hours after the encounter with the police, he took to the field, catching seven passes for 130 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins’ 20-17 victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
