American Airlines Passengers Experience Nine-Hour Flight to Nowhere Due to Restroom Problems
A flight operated by American Airlines earlier this month resulted in a nine-hour journey without reaching a destination, due to an issue with the aircraft’s lavatories, as confirmed by the airline.
Flight AA281 took off from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on September 7. About five hours into the flight to Incheon International Airport in Seoul, the plane was forced to turn back over the Pacific Ocean, according to FlightAware data.
The flight returned to DFW because of a “maintenance issue” related to the lavatories, which posed a risk of overflowing sinks, a representative of the airline shared with YSL News.
“The flight landed safely and without any problems at DFW, and the plane was removed from service for inspection by our maintenance team,” the airline noted. “We always strive to avoid disrupting our customers’ travel plans, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Passengers were provided with hotel accommodations for the night near DFW, as mentioned by the airline. A new aircraft took over for the flight, which resumed on September 8.
