Aaron Rodgers Speaks to RFK in Netflix’s Enigma: ‘Our Journey is Just Beginning’

Aaron Rodgers’ remarks to RFK in Netflix’s Enigma: ‘There’s unfinished business’

Aaron Rodgers has long been one of the most fascinating figures in the NFL.

With his unique hairstyles, famous discounts, a Super Bowl championship, MVP awards, and a controversial departure from Green Bay, Rodgers has experienced many roles in the league during his twenty years on the field. His visibility has increased even more as he transitions from a successful NFL career.

As a legendary quarterback, Rodgers seems to be gearing up for his post-NFL life, albeit not in the conventional way most players do. Instead of moving into broadcasting or sitting behind a sports desk, the Jets quarterback and former Packers star is exploring the political arena.

Between engaging in deep meditation retreats and various personal pursuits, Rodgers is involved in a wide range of activities. In fact, the unique path he is pursuing almost led him to the position of the second most powerful person in the United States. In the Netflix documentary “Enigma,” Rodgers opened up about many aspects of his life, including how he was presented with an opportunity to transition from the NFL sidelines to the White House.

Here are some of the most significant off-field moments featured in the documentary.

Did Aaron Rodgers receive an offer to be RFK’s running mate?

It became a popular joke during the offseason of 2024 that the Jets would lose Rodgers to an Achilles injury early in the season and subsequently lose him to the political arena. While that seemed implausible, it turns out Rodgers was actually offered the Vice Presidential position for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign during a hike.

“Have you considered a career in politics?” Kennedy asked Rodgers.

Rodgers recounted how he first became politically aware as a high school sophomore, relating it to the assassination of Kennedy’s uncle, John F. Kennedy. The quarterback expressed his skepticism towards the government’s explanations.

“What they claimed happened? It couldn’t possibly be true,” Rodgers remarked. “Then I attended the University of California, Berkeley—an incredibly politically charged environment. It’s very liberal, while I grew up in a conservative small town, which made for a fascinating clash of ideologies.”

Rodgers, who is critical of the two-party system in America, shared with Kennedy that he felt a renewed sense of hope when RFK announced his candidacy. The presidential hopeful extended the offer of the Vice Presidential spot to Rodgers, but the Jets quarterback ultimately declined.

“I have a passion for football. I want to keep playing, and I didn’t like how last year turned out,” Rodgers stated. “There’s still some unfinished business in New Jersey.”

Aaron Rodgers addresses his vaccination status

On the field, Rodgers has faced significant criticism around the COVID-19 pandemic, which has notably impacted his public image among fans.

He famously stated he was “immunized,” but was later revealed to have not received the COVID-19 vaccine.

“My family never got flu shots growing up; my dad just didn’t believe in them,” Rodgers explained.

The then-Packers quarterback emphasized that everyone in his organization was aware of his vaccination status.

“Everyone in my (expletive) circle knew I wasn’t vaccinated; my entire team was aware,” Rodgers stated.

Rodgers’ public image has struggled to recover since that incident.

The uncertainty of Aaron Rodgers’ future with the Jets

Despite Rodgers’ insistence that he has unfinished business in New Jersey, the results in 2024 have been disappointing. The Jets are looking at yet another potential top-10 draft pick and an offseason that is likely to bring many changes.

While Rodgers has shown improvement in the latter half of the season, it is uncertain whether New York will welcome him back in 2025 or decide to move on after a disappointing season. There will be ongoing discussions regarding whether the 41-year-old quarterback will perform better as he recovers further from his Achilles injury, but the Jets will ultimately make the final decision.

If he were to be released, the question remains whether any other team would be interested in signing him.

Regardless, success will always be the remedy in the sports world. If Rodgers remains, and if the Jets are open, there may still be a chance to mend what has become a fractured relationship with fans.

After all, time has a way of healing all wounds.
