Antonio Pierce Sidesteps Trade Rumors Surrounding Davante Adams

Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce Avoids Trade Talk on Davante Adams Amid Speculation

The head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, Antonio Pierce, remained silent on the topic of Davante Adams, who is currently the subject of trade rumors.

“Davante is working through a hamstring (injury),” Pierce stated on Wednesday. “He’s in rehab, and the rest of us are concentrating on Denver.”

Due to his hamstring issues, Adams was unable to participate in the Raiders’ Week 4 victory against the Cleveland Browns. However, concerns about his future with the team have taken precedence over his injury.

The trade talk intensified after Pierce liked a post on Instagram from Sports Illustrated that suggested Adams might have “already played his last snap with the Raiders.” He has since un-liked the post.

Adams shared his thoughts on the situation while appearing on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams.

“I’m just letting things unfold as they will regarding that,” Adams remarked. “But I haven’t heard anything from the team since this came up—it’s always some kind of drama about ‘[Davante]?’ I’m trying to set a good example by not causing more drama and just focusing on my responsibilities.”

According to various reports, Adams has put in a trade request.

Pierce reassured reporters that Adams’s trade request isn’t a distraction. When asked what message he wanted to send to the Raiders, Pierce emphasized the importance of focusing on game performance.

“My job here is to prepare for each opponent weekly. I stay focused, and I don’t let distractions get to me,” Pierce explained. “I’ve faced enough challenges in my life that such things don’t affect me. I simply move forward. The next task at hand is the Denver Broncos, and I’ve communicated that to my team.”

Pierce acknowledged that he, along with Raiders owner Mark Davis and general manager Tom Telesco, will ultimately decide any trade involving Adams.

Reports from YSL News Sports identified five potential teams for the six-time Pro Bowler. ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned that the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints are among the top choices for Adams. He has connections with both Jets QB Aaron Rodgers and Saints QB Derek Carr.

Adams played alongside Rodgers in Green Bay for eight seasons and was traded to the Raiders in 2022. In Las Vegas, he reconnected with Carr, his former teammate from Fresno State. However, the Raiders released Carr after the 2022 season, leading to Carr’s signing with the Saints in March 2023.

The Raiders have a little over a month to finalize a trade for their star wide receiver, as the NFL trade deadline is set for 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, November 5. Given the public nature of this situation, it seems unlikely that Adams will retract his trade request. Both parties appear ready to explore other options, regardless of whether Pierce wants to acknowledge it.
