Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Receive NAACP Image Award Nominations on Blue’s Birthday

Beyoncé Knowles Carter and her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, have an extra reason to rejoice on Blue’s 13th birthday: they’ve both received nominations for this year’s NAACP Image Awards.

The nominees for the 56th NAACP Image Awards, scheduled to air live on February 22 from the Pasadena Civic Center in California, were announced on Tuesday. The theme for this year’s awards is “Our Stories, Our Culture, Our Excellence.”

Beyoncé received three nominations for her latest album, “Cowboy Carter,” including outstanding album, outstanding female artist, and outstanding soul/R&B song for her track “16 Carriages.”

Blue Ivy, on the other hand, was nominated for outstanding character voiceover performance in a movie for her role in the Disney film “Mufasa: The Lion King,” marking her debut in feature films. This recognition aligns perfectly with her birthday festivities.

As many fans are aware, Beyoncé and Blue Ivy collaborated on the “Lion King” prequel that premiered in theaters on December 20.

In “Mufasa,” Beyoncé reprised her role as Queen Nala from the 2019 film, while Donald Glover returned as King Simba. Blue provided the voice for Kiara, their daughter.

The film is just one of several creative projects Beyoncé has undertaken in the past year.

Beyoncé unveiled “Cowboy Carter” during a surprise Super Bowl ad in February, along with the singles “16 Carriages” and “Texas Hold ‘Em.” This 27-track album has significantly contributed to the growing recognition of Black country artists and the genre’s origins.

Before launching the album, Beyoncé opened up about her five-year journey creating it, referencing her experiences from her 2016 CMA Awards performance.

She shared on Instagram, “This album has taken over five years to make. It was inspired by an experience where I truly didn’t feel welcome, which was very clear at the time. The feedback I received when I first engaged with this genre pushed me to go beyond the limitations imposed on me. The second part is about challenging myself and allowing the time to mix different genres into this work.”

Most recently, Beyoncé delivered a spectacular halftime performance during the Ravens-Texans game on Christmas Day, showcasing songs from “Cowboy Carter” for the first time live, with Blue Ivy dancing alongside her and the backup dancers.

The NAACP Image Awards will be broadcast in a two-hour live event on BET and CBS.
