Biden’s Farewell Address: A Lesson in ‘Oligarchy’ and ‘Misinformation’? Time to Move On. | Opinion
In his farewell speech, President Joe Biden spoke on topics where he has no credibility, solidifying his image as a hypocrite and deceiver.
President Joe Biden is eager to exit the Oval Office.
His farewell message to the American public on Wednesday served as a final indication of why many will be relieved to see him leave the White House.
Over the last fifty years, Biden has held various positions in elected office. He should have reflected on his career instead of delivering a speech that lacked grace.
Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Instead, Biden used his last moments in front of the camera to once again preach about “democracy,” the “soul of our nation,” and “misinformation,” while also throwing in “oligarchy” for good measure.
These topics highlight his lack of credibility and only solidify his reputation as a hypocrite and liar.
Let’s take a closer look at his statements.
Biden Critiques Trump, Musk, and Wealth Concentration
Even though Biden didn’t mention President-elect Donald Trump or billionaire Elon Musk directly, they were significant figures in his speech.
“I want to alert the nation about certain issues that greatly concern me,” Biden remarked. “There’s a dangerous accumulation of power in the hands of a few extremely wealthy individuals.”
“Currently, an oligarchy is emerging in America, characterized by extreme wealth and influence that genuinely threatens our entire democracy, our fundamental rights, and fairness for everyone.”
Trump has enlisted Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and the wealthiest individual globally, as an advisor, even focusing on reducing the size of government.
So why shouldn’t Trump seek advice from one of the brightest minds in the country?
Wealthy individuals have historically influenced politics. This is something Biden and the Democrats are well aware of. In fact, after Biden dropped out of the race last year, Vice President Kamala Harris received contributions from many more billionaires than Trump did.
When celebrities like Oprah, Hollywood stars, and renowned musicians publicly supported Harris, it seemed acceptable to Biden.
Now, suddenly, it’s a crisis if Musk, who is considered a leading innovator, decides to endorse Trump?
Biden Calls Out Media Misinformation: Hypocrisy at its Best
Biden also dedicated time to warning about the risks of “misinformation” and “disinformation” in the media.
“I’m equally worried about the rise of a tech industrial complex that could present real threats to our country,” he added. “Americans are drowning in an overwhelming tide of misinformation and disinformation, which facilitates the abuse of power. The free press is under threat, and editors are vanishing.”
Give me a break.
During his presidency, Biden and his administration have posed threats to freedom of speech and the spread of truthful information, particularly concerning the Biden family’s affairs and COVID-19.
While campaigning for president in 2020, Biden dismissed reports about his son Hunter’s infamous laptop as Russian disinformation. Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter faced significant pressure to suppress these stories just weeks before the election. And they complied.
In reality, those claims turned out to be entirely accurate.
Biden also had the nerve to target Meta, which owns Facebook, criticizing the company for its lack of effective fact-checking policies.
“Social media has abandoned fact-checking,” he stated. “Lies told for power and profit are suffocating the truth. We must hold social platforms accountable to protect our children, families, and democracy from power abuse.”
Recently, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed to podcaster Joe Rogan about the Biden administration’s pressure to censor truthful information.
“They pressured us very hard to remove content that was actually true,” Zuckerberg explained. “They effectively pushed us to take down anything that suggested vaccines might have side effects.”
That sounds distinctly anti-democratic to me.
Not to mention the numerous untruths Biden and his advisors have propagated for months regarding the president’s declining health, labeling genuine stories about his evident deterioration as “cheap fakes.”
In his farewell remarks, Biden reminded us precisely why voters opted for Donald Trump to succeed him next week—and why the country will benefit from his departure.
