New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. But regulatory efforts to backfill some injection wells with cement and reduce injection volumes have been effective in lowering the state's induced earthquake rate, according to a new study. How many points did Caitlin Clark score today? Fever star sets another WNBA rookie record

Once again, a record has been shattered.

On Wednesday, Caitlin Clark set a new WNBA rookie record for the most three-pointers made in a single season. She achieved this milestone by sinking her 86th three-pointer just under three minutes into the Indiana Fever’s 84-80 victory against the Connecticut Sun. This win marked Indiana’s first triumph over the Sun in four attempts this season.

Clark scored 19 points during the game, adding to her record with three three-pointers. The previous record was held by Rhyne Howard of Atlanta, who made 85 three-pointers in her rookie season last year and was named the 2022 Rookie of the Year.

As a leading candidate for the 2024 Rookie of the Year award, Clark contributed five rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block to her team’s success, although she also had seven turnovers. She finished the game with 7-of-17 shooting, including 3-of-12 from beyond the arc.

This was an impressive win for the Fever, bringing them closer to a .500 record and a potential playoff berth, a position they haven’t reached since 2016—Clark’s freshman year of high school—when they were eliminated in the first round.

The Connecticut team started strong with an 8-2 lead, but the Fever responded with a 20-7 surge to lead 33-26 by the end of the first quarter. They held a 51-42 advantage at halftime and led 69-66 heading into the final period. With the score tied at 80-80 and 2:31 remaining, Clark drove to the basket for a score, giving the Fever the lead. After both teams exchanged missed shots, Lexie Hull sealed the victory with a pair of free throws.

All five starters for the Fever managed double-digit points, with Kelsey Mitchell leading the way with 23. The team displayed a solid performance from long-range, shooting 43.3% by sinking 13 of their 30 three-point attempts.

Wednesday’s game featured notable spectators, including Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas, who added to the star-studded atmosphere surrounding Clark.
