Costco Butter Recall: 80,000 Pounds at Risk Due to Omitted Milk Statement

Costco Issues Recall for Nearly 80,000 Pounds of Butter Due to Missing ‘Contains Milk’ Label: FDA

FoodSafety.gov advises returning recalled items for a refund or discarding them so they are not consumed by others or animals.

Customers at Costco who have dairy allergies should check their refrigerators after the recall of 80,000 pounds of butter due to the absence of the “Contains Milk” statement, as reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This recall affects 1,300 cases, totaling 79,200 pounds of butter, and was initiated on October 11 by a wholesaler from Littlefield, Texas, due to an undeclared allergen. According to the FDA, the allergen in the recalled Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter (46,800 pounds) and Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter (32,400 pounds) is milk.

On November 7, this recall was categorized as a Class II, indicating that exposure to the butter “may result in temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects,” per the FDA. Records show that this butter was distributed across Texas, although the specific regions have not been disclosed.

It remains unknown whether any customers have experienced allergic reactions from consuming the butter.

YSL News reached out to Costco on Monday but has yet to receive a reply.

What Should You Do with the Recalled Butter?

The FDA has not issued specific guidance for customers who have already bought the affected butter. FoodSafety.gov recommends returning the recalled products to the store for a refund or discarding them safely to prevent others, including animals, from consuming them.
