Costco is expanding its selection of precious metals with the addition of platinum bars to its bulk selling range.

The 1-ounce platinum bars are now available for purchase online exclusively for members. This marks Costco’s first venture into selling platinum, following the popularity of their silver coins and gold bars, which sold out rapidly.

Between September and November 2023, the store reported more than $100 million in sales from gold bars, which were priced around $2,000 per 1-ounce, 24-karat bar.

The new platinum bars, made in Switzerland, boast a purity level of 999.5. They come from a refiner recognized by the London Bullion Market Association, a significant global organization in the precious metals sector, according to the company.

The platinum bars are priced at $1,089.99 and can only be bought online. However, customers in Nevada, Louisiana, and Puerto Rico cannot have these bars delivered.

Costco states that orders for the bars will arrive within three to five days, but there’s no option for returns or refunds on platinum orders.

What is the purchasing limit for Costco platinum bars?

Members can only purchase one platinum bar at a time, with a maximum limit of five bars in a single transaction.

Costco Recently Increased Membership Fees

Last month, Costco raised its membership costs for the first time since 2017, with annual fees for Gold Star memberships going up from $60 to $65 in the U.S. and Canada.

Similarly, the price for executive memberships increased from $120 to $130, while the maximum annual reward for executive members rose from $1,000 to $1,250.
