Daddy Yankee announces separation from long-time spouse Mireddys González: ‘A difficult time’
The reggaeton star shared his divorce announcement in a heartfelt social media message.
Daddy Yankee and his wife Mireddys González are ending their long-standing marriage.
On Monday, the Puerto Rican performer took to his Instagram Stories to announce their split, following González’s recent divorce filing.
“With a heart full of respect and honesty, I want to share some important news about my personal life,” Yankee expressed in Spanish. “After more than twenty years of marriage and after many months of working to save our union, my lawyers are now responding to Mireddys’ divorce request.”
Yankee, whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, and González tied the knot in 1994 at the age of 17. Together, they have three children: daughters Jesaaelys Marie, 28, and Yamilette Rodriguez, and son Jeremy, 26.
Although the “Gasolina” hitmaker did not specify the reasons behind the divorce, he mentioned that his Christian beliefs were a source of “refuge” and “guidance” during their efforts to “work through our differences.”
“I respect Mireddys’ choice and feel thankful for the time we spent together, filled with love, family values, and blessings,” Yankee reflected.
A spokesperson for González did not provide comments when contacted.
In addition to their marriage, González has played the role of Yankee’s manager and is the CEO of his record label, El Cartel Records. Yankee referred to her as “the boss” during a Billboard interview in 2021.
“This is a challenging time, but I recognize it as part of my life journey,” Yankee concluded. “It’s time to move forward while ensuring the well-being of my children and everything we’ve built over the years. I sincerely thank everyone who has supported us and kindly ask for privacy as we navigate this situation. I understand this news may come as a surprise to many.”
After retiring from the reggaeton industry in 2023, Yankee released a series of Christian hip-hop songs—including “Donante de Sangre,” “Loveo,” and “Bailando en La Lluvia”—in 2024.
