Daniel Jackson’s Incredible Catch Highlights Minnesota Football’s Game Against Michigan

In a thrilling matchup at The Big House, Minnesota football nearly overcame a 21-point deficit against the 12th-ranked Michigan, ultimately losing 27-24 in the 2024 Little Brown Jug rivalry clash.

Despite the loss, Gophers wide receiver Daniel Jackson garnered attention for a possible “Catch of the Year” with his stunning play during the game.

On a critical drive deep in Michigan’s territory, with a first-and-10 at the 12-yard line, Jackson made an extraordinary catch off a deflected pass from quarterback Max Brosmer, which had bounced off Wolverine defensive back Zeke Berry. This impressive feat brought the Gophers within three points, making the score 27-24. Remarkably, Jackson caught the ball while turning his back to Berry before spinning to secure the touchdown.

Here’s a closer look at Jackson’s incredible touchdown catch:

Jackson concluded his game with seven receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown, ranking second among all wide receivers. Over the first five games of the season, he has made 21 catches totaling 268 yards and one touchdown.

Even though they lost, the Gophers outperformed the Wolverines in nearly all key statistical areas, including total offensive yards (296 to 241), first downs (20 to 15), and total tackles (62 to 57). Brosmer’s performance included 27 completions out of 40 attempts for 258 passing yards, along with one touchdown, but he also faced five sacks and one interception during the game.

Following the defeat, which was attended by Minnesota Governor and Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz, the Gophers fell to a 2-3 overall record and 0-2 in the Big Ten conference. They have now lost their last six games in the Big Ten dating back to last season.
