Danny Jansen Set to Break MLB Records by Playing for Both the Red Sox and Blue Jays in a Single Game

Danny Jansen set to make MLB history by playing for both Red Sox and Blue Jays in the same game

On June 26, Danny Jansen played as the catcher for the Toronto Blue Jays in a game held in Boston.

Fast forward two months, and he is about to make baseball history.

Now with the Red Sox, Jansen will be the first player in MLB history to participate for both teams during the same game when they resume a previously suspended match this coming Monday.

Red Sox’s manager, Alex Cora, confirmed on Friday that Jansen will be the catcher when the game resumes.

“It’s going to be wild,” Jansen shared with The Athletic.

At the time the original game was called off in the second inning, Jansen was about to take his first at-bat as a Blue Jay.

Just over a month later, he was traded to the Red Sox, and Boston designated Reese McGuire, their catcher who played on June 26, for assignment.

Jansen expressed his surprise upon hearing about his chance to make history.

“Initially, I wasn’t aware (of this situation),” he told The Athletic. “I thought, ‘Am I actually going to play for the other team?’ It took me a bit to figure everything out. The trade happened so quickly, and I didn’t consider the implications then.

“But once everything calmed down, I learned about the suspended game. I thought, ‘Wow, that’s really cool. This is something unique that’s going to happen.'”

As of Friday, Jansen, who is 29 years old, has maintained a batting average of .257 with two home runs and five RBIs in 13 games for the Red Sox.
