Deadline Approaches for Cash App Users to Claim Their Share of $15 Million Settlement in Security Breach Case

Cash App users have less than a month to file a claim for $15M security breach settlement

Cash App users have until Nov. 18, 2024, to submit their claims for compensation due to the data and security breach.

Cash App users are nearing the deadline to file a claim for reimbursement related to the data and security breach. The cutoff date is just weeks away.

The mobile payment platform has been mandated to pay $15 million in damages following a recent settlement.

Individuals using Cash App may be eligible to receive up to $2,500 after a data breach occurred in December 2021, which led to the “unauthorized public release of personally identifiable information,” as detailed in the class-action lawsuit reported by YSL News.

The lawsuit accused Cash App Investing and Block Inc. of not taking reasonable steps to protect consumer information.

This breach impacted 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers, according to the complaint.

Furthermore, a former employee accessed users’ personal information during their employment and downloaded it without users’ consent, as stated in the lawsuit.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Cash App settlement.

Do I qualify to file a claim?

Cash App users must have held an account on Aug. 23, 2018, and before Aug. 20, 2024, to qualify for filing a claim. Additionally, eligible users should not have already received reimbursement from Block Inc., Cash App Investing, or any other party, as stated by the mobile payment service.

What types of claims can Cash App users file?

According to Cash App, users can submit claims for the following:

  • Out-of-pocket losses: Users can submit evidence showing their Cash App account was part of the data breach. If eligible, they can receive up to $2,500 after submitting the needed documentation.
  • Lost time: Claimants may also receive reimbursement for lost time. Users can document up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour for time spent on issues related to unauthorized access and the data breach.
  • Transaction losses: Users who incurred financial losses without having been compensated can file a claim for those losses.

What if I have more than one Cash App account?

Users only need to submit one claim form. However, if you have several Cash App accounts you wish to claim for, the service advises users to specify all of their $(InsertYourCashTag) and related claim details on a single form, according to Cash App.

How can I submit a claim?

For claim submissions, Cash App users need to fill out and send in a completed claim form before the deadline of Nov. 18. The form can be submitted at https://cashappsecuritysettlement.com/submit-claim.
