Debate Preparation Kicks Off: Trump and Harris Gear Up for Upcoming Showdown
WASHINGTON – With the Democratic national convention approaching, both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are starting to prepare for their critical debate scheduled for Sept. 10.
Trump has resumed his unconventional approach to debate preparation, seeking advice from advisers and acquaintances, including Tulsi Gabbard, a notable former debate rival of Harris.
“President Trump is recognized as one of the greatest debaters in political history, which was evident during his impactful confrontation with Joe Biden” on June 27, stated Karoline Leavitt, the Trump campaign’s national press secretary.
Gabbard, who previously ran for president as a Democrat in 2020, had criticized Harris extensively during a debate in July 2019.
Leavitt noted that Trump “does not require typical debate preparations and will continue to consult with respected policy experts and proficient communicators like Tulsi Gabbard, who effectively outperformed Kamala Harris during their debate.”
Trump and Harris’ debate is set to take place in Philadelphia on Sept. 10 and will be broadcasted by ABC News.
In contrast, Harris has embarked on traditional debate training, including mock debates at her alma mater, Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Philippe Reines, a veteran Democratic strategist, is taking on the role of Trump during these practice debates, a task he previously handled for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.
According to a report from The New York Times on Friday, “Harris is conducting her debate preparations with a small team of advisers, many of whom have known her since before her vice presidency.”
