Live Updates: Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Court Appearance for Bail Hearing

Sean “Diddy” Combs is poised to take the stand in court for a bail hearing to decide if he will stay in custody while awaiting his trial.

The music executive was previously turned down for bail on Tuesday after he entered a not guilty plea to charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting individuals for prostitution. Following Combs’ arraignment, U.S. Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky determined that he should remain incarcerated until his trial begins.

On Wednesday, Combs’ legal team submitted a revised bail proposal to Judge Andrew L. Carter, requesting a bond of $50 million. This bond would be backed by the equity from Combs’ fully paid-off Miami property as well as his mother’s home in Miami.

Currently, he is being held in isolation in the Special Housing Unit of Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, as reported by CNN and the Daily Beast.

During the Tuesday proceedings, Judge Tarnofsky expressed serious concerns regarding Combs’ potential substance abuse and apparent anger management issues, according to The Associated Press. NBC reported that Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson noted that during his arrest late Monday, a pink powder believed to be a narcotic was discovered in Combs’ hotel room.

The updated bail proposal includes multiple safeguards to keep an eye on Combs’ actions leading up to the trial, such as travel restrictions between New York and Florida, house arrest with GPS tracking, limits on female visitors at his home, and weekly drug testing.

“These suggested terms will alleviate community safety concerns and guarantee that he appears in court,” his legal team asserted.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs: Plane Searches and Children’s Distress, According to Lawyers

In a motion for bail, Combs’ attorneys revealed that he was searched on a plane during the raids and that Homeland Security agents reportedly held his children at gunpoint.

The legal team also highlighted challenges in finding a “one-month rental” in New York City due to this case, noting that landlords are hesitant to rent to him because of the ongoing investigation. According to his lawyers, Combs has been residing at the Park Hyatt and Carlyle hotels.

Through his attorneys, Combs has asked for release to home confinement with GPS tracking on a $50 million bond secured by the equity in his Miami home worth $48 million and his mother Janice Combs’ nearby residence. His family, including his mother and daughters Chance, Jessie, D’Lia, and Love Combs, have all surrendered their passports to his legal team, as stated in court documents.

“Sean Combs has never shied away from a challenge in his life,” his legal filing states. “He will confront this case directly, as he has with every obstacle before, putting in the effort to defend himself and succeed.”

Details from Raids: Seized Baby Oil and Seizing of AR-15s, Authorities Claim ‘Manipulative Behavior’

The 14-page indictment filed on September 12, which was unveiled on Tuesday, alleges that Combs transformed his “diverse business empire” into a “criminal operation” involved in kidnappings, arson, acts of violence, sex trafficking, and forced labor among other offenses.

During the recent raids, authorities reportedly confiscated multiple AR-15 rifles, large-capacity magazines, “evidence” relating to the charges in the indictment, and over 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant that were allegedly intended for “freak offs,” according to U.S. Attorney Damian Williams’ statement on Tuesday.

William S. Walker, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New York, emphasized in a statement on Tuesday, “Today, we dispel any false beliefs of immunity as we reveal the defendant’s alleged pattern of manipulation, exploitation, and outright abuse. We are here today due to the relentless courage of the victims and witnesses who have faced unimaginable hardships.”
