Your pet can write a Christmas list too: How to reach out to ‘Chewy Claus’ this holiday season
Who says Santa only caters to humans? Introducing Chewy Claus, who is here to grant wishes for all pets, including dogs, cats, and birds.
Chewy Claus, Chewy’s “cherished letter writing initiative,” is back for another holiday season to “spread even more joy to pets nationwide,” according to a company announcement.
“This is a chance for pets (or their owners) to express their wishes by writing holiday letters to Chewy Claus, asking for whatever their paws, claws, fins, or wings desire,” Chewy explained.
How to send a letter to Chewy Claus
Pet owners can submit their furry friends’ holiday wishes now until December 20 on Chewy’s website, where they can select from a variety of gift choices and add any “special requests” they have.
“For every letter sent to Chewy Claus, Chewy will donate one pound of pet food to their partner non-profit organizations, up to a total of 600,000 pounds,” Chewy mentioned, noting that pets can also choose to apply their holiday gifts towards “sending an extra pound of food to pets in need.”
Since the program started, over 500,000 pets have written to Chewy Claus requesting “delicious treats and fun toys,” but a recurring request topping many letters has been for “loving homes for all the pets in shelters and rescues.”
This year, to fulfill those wishes, Chewy Claus is partnering with Best Friends Animal Society to offer free pet adoptions during the first weekend of the holiday season from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1. The national animal welfare group aims to eliminate the killing of dogs and cats in U.S. shelters and achieve a no-kill status by 2025. You can search for a nearby shelter or rescue organization here.
“Chewy Claus is on a mission to spread happiness during the joyous holiday season,” Chewy’s Chief Brand Officer, Orlena Yeung, stated. “Receiving thousands of letters from pets seeking homes prompted us to take action. There is no better way to mark the season than by connecting pets with affectionate families—whether they are new pet parents or are welcoming a furry companion back home.”
Julie Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society, mentioned that the free adoption initiative aims to make it “more accessible for families to adopt a new furry friend.”
“As we enter the winter holidays, shelters and rescue groups nationwide are filled with animals ready for adoption that deserve caring homes,” Castle said. “There’s no better time to make a pet’s wish for a loving home come true than during the holiday season.”
