New Research Shows Plugged Wells and Decreased Injection Rates Diminish Induced Earthquake Occurrences in Oklahoma

Wastewater injection resulting from oil and gas production in Oklahoma caused a dramatic rise in seismic activity in the state between 2009 and 2015. But regulatory efforts to backfill some injection wells with cement and reduce injection volumes have been effective in lowering the state's induced earthquake rate, according to a new study. Drive Sammy Hagar’s Ferrari and Join the Ultimate Celebration: ‘Don’t Forget Your Passport!’

If you purchase Sammy Hagar’s Ferrari, a party invitation may come your way: ‘Bring your passport’

This summer, musician Sammy Hagar is focused on music, as he and his band embark on their Best of All Worlds tour.

However, as the fall approaches, after the supergroup—which features notable musicians like drummer Jason Bonham, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, and guitarist Joe Satriani—wraps up their tour in Japan on September 23, Hagar plans to shift gears to his other great love: fast cars.

On October 12, his cherished 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari, which is one-of-a-kind, will finally go up for auction at Barrett-Jackson, following a delay earlier this year when a full inspection revealed it needed a new battery despite having only 1,100 miles on the odometer.

“It’s a bittersweet moment for me to pass on the keys to the new owner, but the car was made to be driven and I can’t handle all its power,” Hagar shared with YSL News from Nashville, where he is preparing for an upcoming concert at Bridgestone Arena. “I hope to connect with the new owner and take it out for a spin together occasionally.”

Hagar amusingly advises potential bidders to come to Arizona with their passports. He plans to leave immediately after the auction to fly to his favorite spot in Cabo San Lucas, just in time for his 77th birthday celebration on October 13.

“I jokingly tell anyone interested in the car to ‘bring your passport,’ you never know,” Hagar remarked.

Interestingly, his jet has a similar color scheme to his LaFerrari, which inspired the car’s custom design during his visit to the famed factory in Maranello, Italy, where he collaborated on the vehicle with his wife, Kari.

The vehicle is uniquely his, featuring a special cappuccino-inspired color scheme and a carbon fiber steering wheel inscribed with his initials and birth date. Hagar, who enjoys aligning significant dates and numbers, feels excited about the timing of the sale.

“I took possession of the car on my birthday, October 13, 2016, and there’s a silver plaque on the steering wheel that reads ‘SH1013.’ After the auction, I’ll be celebrating my birthday, happy in knowing that the person who acquires this stunning LaFerrari will feel just as joyous,” he expressed. “Oh, and by the way, it’s a Libra.”

Craig Jackson, Barrett-Jackson’s CEO, stated that “deciding to hold Sammy’s LaFerrari for our fall auction was the right choice, ensuring it will be an immaculate supercar for its new owner. His LaFerrari reflects his ‘go fast lifestyle,’ and we’re excited to feature it prominently at our second Scottsdale auction this year.”

The 2024 Barrett-Jackson auction will take place from October 10-13 at WestWorld of Scottsdale, and Hagar’s car will be sold during a live broadcast on FYI and the History Channel.

Last year, there was considerable buzz about the planned sale of Hagar’s custom cream-and-black LaFerrari, which led fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and automobile enthusiast Rod Stewart to reach out to Hagar, ultimately leading Stewart to buy his own white LaFerrari.

Unfortunately, the deal was delayed due to the battery issue, as both Hagar and the auction house needed to ensure the expensive vehicle was in flawless condition before presenting it for sale.

Sourcing a new battery might sound straightforward for an ordinary car, but it’s a different story when it involves locating a rare, high-cost part for a vehicle that originally sold for over $1.4 million.

Only just over 700 Ferrari LaFerrari cars were manufactured from 2013 to 2016, and they now command prices exceeding $5 million. Eventually, a new battery was procured from the Ferrari factory, and the installation was handled by Ferrari of San Francisco, a dealership located near one of Hagar’s California residences.

As many fans know, Hagar’s passion for high-speed cars has been a constant throughout his life, encapsulated in his iconic song “I Can’t Drive 55.”

Notably, his fascination with fast cars began during a tour with the band Montrose, where he first laid eyes on a Ferrari and promised himself he would own one someday. His collection has grown over time, partly thanks to his role as lead singer for Van Halen, a job that was made possible through an introduction from his mechanic Claudio Zampolli, who managed exotic Italian sports cars for both Hagar and Van Halen.

Zampolli connected Hagar with Eddie Van Halen after the former frontman David Lee Roth left in 1985. Hagar’s contributions as a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter played a significant role in elevating the band’s success, even after his parting from the group in 1996.

Hagar’s cars are supported by his success as an entrepreneur, notably selling a major stake in his Cabo Wabo tequila brand to Gruppo Campari in 2007 for $80 million, and later offloading the remaining shares.

Despite already owning a treasure trove of supercars from various brands, from Ford to Aston Martin, Hagar grew interested in owning Ferrari’s latest model, the LaFerrari, whose distinctive name translates to “The Ferrari.” This model features extensive carbon fiber design and is powered by a V12 gas engine along with electric motors that produce an astonishing total of 1,000 horsepower.

Now, someone with both ample funds and a love for rock ‘n’ roll will have the chance to drive this coveted vehicle.
