Ella Travolta pays tribute to her late mother Kelly Preston in a new song, sharing cherished home videos
In Hollywood, the family resemblance is unmistakable, and Ella Bleu Travolta is a perfect example.
The daughter of John Travolta and Kelly Preston is honoring her deceased mother with “Little Bird,” a song featured in her forthcoming EP “Colors of Love.”
“I truly felt (Preston) was there with me,” 24-year-old Ella Travolta shared in a recent interview with People magazine. “I knew she would be proud of this entire journey and of me.”
In creating her latest song, Travolta mentioned that she blocked out external distractions and concentrated on her memories as a way to handle her sorrow.
“Growing up in the spotlight, I received a lot of attention, especially after losing someone,” she explained. “There’s definitely a significant amount of global support that comes with that.”
She added: “However, there’s also this pressure and assumptions from others about how you should feel, which can complicate the process.”
Understanding ‘Little Bird’
Travolta explained that the song captures the essence of cherishing the genuine bonds we have with those we’ve lost and emphasizes listening to our inner feelings while staying connected to those relationships. She mentioned it reflects the perspective of a mother bird speaking to her baby bird.
She shared the inspiration for the bird theme, revealing that her mother felt that birds represented those she lost, reaching out from beyond. Ella also began observing many birds while working on her EP.
“Years have passed since my mother’s passing, allowing me to reflect on everything and understand the message I wanted to convey to her,” Travolta shared.
“I aimed for it to be a tribute to life as well,” she stated.

The “Little Bird” music video features a montage— a “big collection of some of my most treasured memories” captured in home videos with Preston.
“It’s essential to remember that, although you lose someone, their life should be celebrated because you had the opportunity to share moments with them,” she told People.
Kelly Preston passed away at the age of 57 in 2020 after battling breast cancer, prompting John Travolta to share an emotional Instagram tribute confirming her death.
“She fought bravely with the support and love of many,” he wrote. “Kelly’s love and spirit will always be remembered. I’ll need time to support my children who are grieving the loss of their mother, so please understand if we’re not in touch for a while.”
John Travolta and Preston also had two sons: Ben, 13, and Jett, who sadly passed away at just 16 years old in January 2009 after suffering a seizure during a family vacation in the Bahamas.
“My parents are a tremendous source of inspiration in many aspects of my life,” Ella Travolta shared with People.
